€200 fine for HIDs in Austria

35 eurod for speeding to me s what we should have paid, not 200 a piece for something like lighting...!! I'm posting this in my hotel room thursday evening in a wet st anton tomorrow we hed back north to the black forest, we been through hollnd germany france austria italy switzerland all with hids on dip and spots blazing only the landeck police took exception to them, this is just warning as to the treatment that we received as tourists to the tirol region we got.we didnt get this last year with the same bikes and setups'no one last year at the enzian mentioned anything about them, so just be warned if your going to austria with hids dont be suprised if your stopped.

only post the second half then:D

Sounds like you were unlucky and had a couple of jobsworths. Perhaps they just didn't like the spots blazing away in broad daylight.

I got stopped for speeding between 2 villages in Austria a few years and I have to say it was the nicest speeding ticket I've paid. I was banged to rights and the cops were very friendly and warned me that all their friends were out so to be careful. I was doing 87kph in a 50kph and was expecting a huge fine and when he said 35 euro's, I couldn't get my money out quick enough:D

Sounds about right, there are plenty of police out in the villages doing speed checks. At least around here they have sod all else to do! I'm told there was, in our valley, a vehicle stolen once - 29 years ago now and then it was found in the next valley with the keys in it. Never seen or heard of a speed trap on the open road here. A couple of times people have said they were stopped on the open road and it has turned out to be in a 70 limit for a junction. Just do what everyone does around here, unless you can see that there is nowhere for the police to hide slow down for the 70 limits and you will be fine.

Just trying to get my head round this
You get fined 200 euros by two jobs worths
What happens if you go 5 miles down the road and get pulled by two more pricks
Then 5 miles later again and again
Are they saying the lights have to be removed there and then
Or do you the have to try to escape from Austria before being caught

Yes we had spots on and headlight we were NOT SPEEDING! And I was asked to pay CASH! Mick was allowed credit card! Puts me well off!

No it was 17.00 hrs and was light he even
Got touchy when I asked why is it € 100 per light?
Saying all Hid lights are ileagal in Europe!
They were almost nasty! And we were very polite
But I do feel like we have been fleeced!

No it wasn.t dark but it is generally conceived that a triangular pattern of light is more seen by the cagers, the hids are from this parish (note not implying anything hete as they are bloody good) and yes that wanted us to change the bulbs, which is difficult as the cover on the back of the light is drilled for the hid wiring.we are now riding with only a dipped beam on and when asked about being stopped again they just shrugged their shoulders....

Read this.

Aftermarket HIDs are not legal in the UK or, therefore, anywhere else in the EU.

Greg

As has been pointed out before, that is not the law, merely the opinion of the DoT

You're right. It's exactly the same as the Highway Code not being the law either. But you breach it at your peril (just as I do with 2 x aftermarket HIDs on my bike).

Greg

Not sure if I have got this right. It wasn't dark yet you had both HID dipped beam and HID spotlamps on? That's going to blind everyone coming towards you in whatever country you're riding in so I'm not surprised you got pulled.

Of course!
I'm sick of my mates lying through their f*cking teeth to me!
I'll tell them they're twats because there are clever shits on UKGSers that know much better than them what happened.

a reply of pure class and eloquence:clap:D:D:D:D:beerjug:

Well every GSA I've seen has dipped and spots on,like its been said a triangular light pattern is seen by cagers

it could be the spots they was getting shitty about , but it seems you have both fallen foul of a couple of twats who didnt get a blow job the night before:mad:

still at least you know they work as the rozzers saw you coming:hide:pullface

Well every GSA I've seen has dipped and spots on,like its been said a triangular light pattern is seen by cagers

And by the coppers too:D

I think the point is, it's unlikely to get stopped by just having a HID dipped beam on but perhaps also having two HID spots on in daylight is sort of inviting trouble :nenau

Hi to the gray one ill be with you in malta (peak rider) end of next week.
ive got a full compliment of HiDs on a gsa, we will have to see how we go on.

Yes these two were twats nothing like bikers
Who I have met. Usually police can even
Have a laugh whilst taking your money!
But €400 for Hids is a dick Turpin move!
I have to say they were both horrible to us.

And very welcome you will be too! If you didn't already know every biker gets a free drink on arrival. We will be out there with cold beers as you lot pull up. see you next Friday then.

As for the local police, never had a problem here but then as I have said Kärnten is a very laid back place.

At long last the Police have done something right :clap:clap

Fckin GS's loaded up with everything and a pillion on the back - all lights blazing and now pointing up higher than they should cos they aren't adjusted properly - blinding everyone they see coming in the opposite direction

Bloody good job too.

Here's a lesson - don't have driving lights on in daylight
Adjust them very properly if you have to have them at all.

Cocks on GS's with too many lights on in daylight deserve to get pulled over - HID's are even worse

Lesson learned.
