Vario

After a 2500 mile blast down to the Pyrenees with camping gear, full luggage and Mrs Lunchbox providing balast, I can say that I am now totally confused and cannot remember which of my screens did what over the past year. However I can honestly say that the Wunderlich Vario did a good job with windblast (weather was perfect) and was easy to drop down when doing mountain twisties in the heat.

Anyone installed a BMW R1200GS adv OEM windscreen on F8? Any pics on that?Is that possible or we have to make another choice?

I'm using the Wunderlich Vario at the mo

Does the job better than all the others that I've tried, but it's a bugger to clean between the two screens so I have to take it off to do so ... a bloody chore

It wobbles about a bit over the rough stuff so might annoy. Having said that I revised the mounting from Wunderlich's fitting and it's a bit better

Hmm... watch this space, but don't hold your breath.

I'm waiting for a "scrap" R1200GSA screen to become available to try this. I don't know how awkward it'll be, but I doubt it would be possible without a lot of extra work, since the top edge of the headlamp is quite different, and the screen doesn't look like it would line up with the F800GS's screen mounts. Something else I've been thinking about is fitting the GSA's headlight assembly too, since then at least the screen's bottom edge should line up, but I can't see one of those becoming available at all (I don't have any money to spend on this) so that may just be a thought experiment.

The Wunderlich seat is OK Lunchbox. It was a prototype they gave me. Trouble is it slopes down towards the front so going down steep hairpins you have to brace yersen or suffer crushed nuts

It's OK for a couple of hours but then I'd be ready for a pee and a coffee anyway

Thanks GS-lad I can't think of anything else I would want on it ... fully sorted to my requirements. Some BMW stuff, some Wunderlich and some Touratech, but after 50,000 miles on it I now know what's best for it (for me)

I might be interested, I have a 650gs 2010 and I think your screen might be slightly larger than my current screen. I'm in Surrey too, but before could you send me a pic for size, or some measurements. I reckon the holes should be the same, what do you think?

There's three different BMW OEM screens.
The standard F650GS (twin) screen which is quite short.
The standard F800GS screen which is a bit taller than the F650GS screen
Then there's the F800GS "touring screen" which is very similar to the R1200GS Adventures creen. This screen is a £220 accessory from BMW and has got a second bracket.

The F800GS screen is often sold as an upgrade for the F650GS by the BMW dealers. So, if you're out for an upgrade to your low F650GS screen then this might be a good option.

I have all three and prefer the F650GS screen for normal bimbling around, the F800GS screen has a bit of an annoying turbulence for my height and my helmet (why do people never mention helmets in screen-related-topics?!). And I've not tried the touring screen yet.

800gs screen free to good home

Ayup chaps i have a screen in perfect condition i brought it off ebay and never used it, as you can see it higher and slightly wider than the stock screen and i no longer have my 800.

so if someone is local to DERBY they can have it FOC but you need to collect im not sending it and all i ask in return is that you dont take the p155 and stick it on ebay.

Touring screen

Hi All
I'm going to be trading in my 07 GSA in a few weeks for a new F800gs .The question is you have a support bar fitted to the bike when you have the OEM touring screen fitted, is there enough room betwwen the top of the support bar and back of screen to fit a GPS bracket, like TT do for the 1200gsa ???? as that would be an ideal place to fit it. Thank you all.

Not really, as the touring screen sweeps back towards you and there's not a lot of room for bracket, holder etc

I was fortunate to have a GPS bracket made for me by fellow GSer Chad of Rugged Roads.

If its of help or a further thought heres a picture

puts it well under your nose, in site/view just under your existing dials

At the time he made one for my bike and one for a 8 rider from this parish who i beleive has since moved to the dark side (yep a 12).


It works very well personaly I could not get on with it on the left or right, To much head movement .......

Apart from the clearance issues, this bar is rubber mounted, and not up to the job anyway.

I use this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-F800GS-Ad...32?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item19c275d74c it does the job perfectly, although you may want to add the spacer kit from BMW that moves it a bit further away from the keys.

Thanks for your replies, my only concern was when it is mounted on the bar clamps does it obscure the clocks or would it interfere with a tank bag.
