► Alternative screen options

I purchased the BMW touring set up with the bracket. Unfortunately, I didn't like the windscreen...little increased protection. I opted for the TT screen. I retained the BMW bracket and after fitting the TT screen, drilled two hole so I could add additional bolts to the bracket. This really makes the TT screen much more rigid. I then added a TT windscreen spoiler on the TT screen. Much better protection. For warmer riding or off road, I just remove the spoiler. I have been riding in 32F+ degree weather and I find it very good in protection. The air flow now just hits at the top of my helmet...just where I want it. The BMW screen is for sale if anyone is interested.

Hi there, would you happen to have any photos of the TT screen and the BMW mounting hardware please?

i am also thinking of this combination. BMW want some stupid amount for their screen and mounting kit as a pair so i am going another way.

what height ar you?

thank you

It takes some pressure of the chest and moves the airstream up to the helmet, but I think it gets to noisy with it. Most of the time I prefer to run my 800 with just the standard windshield. It's more quite that way with a more clean airflow.

Is your comment to the TouraTech extender or one of the other options?

Sorry, I got confused on which item you were replying to....

Sorry. I was talking about the TT-extender.

It gives protection but noise and I don't like noise..

How to choose screen height/width

Found this info courtesy of sporttouring.com and ceebaileys.com;

WINDSHIELD HEIGHT: How to choose your height/width

1. If you have a stock , non-adjustable windshield, go to step #2. If your stock shield is mechanically adjustable, lower it to the bottom or lowest position. If your windshield is electrically adjustable (RT, LT, FJR, Connie 14) extend it about a quarter (25%) of the way up.
2. Get a measuring tape, straight edge, or two yardsticks.
3. Move your bike to a level spot.
4. Tape the yardstick to the center of the windshield using masking tape.
5. Sit on your bike in a normal riding position. From between your chin and no higher than your mouth use a straight edge or additional yardstick pointing towards the shield. Measure in a level line parallel with the ground to the yardstick taped on the shield. As an example if the straight edge from your chin to the taped yardstick on the shield measures about three inches above the top of the shield and it’s level, you would be best suited by a +3” taller shield. Simply put the top of the shield should be even with or just below your mouth. You can do this yourself but having an extra set of eyes is very helpful. Width is dependant on your body type, more robust riders will want more width for better torso protection, while a smaller rider may find that the stock shield works perfect. This is general rule of thumb and is effective for the majority of riders & bikes.

Hakan,
A couple of pics for you.

Spoiler in low position

There are a couple of imtermediate positions as well.

Has anyone tried this combo with the BMW Touring Screen?

TT screen noice

I have just installed the TT screen on my 800GS.
I like the screen ad it's shape and does not interfere with the BMW handguards and rised handlebar, when steering completely to the right or left. that is perfct.

I have just noticed, and I might be wrong, that there is more noise around my helmet (SHOEI Multitech) when at 80/100 km/h.
Now I am 182cm tall and the screen is deflecting the air up to the top of the helmet, which is great.

I have to say that i haven't used the bike extensively in the last weeks as it keeps raining day and night! so I will take the first opportunity to test it properly, and i might also reinstall the OEM one to check the difference back to back.

But just in case anyone has had the same experience as me
thanks!

I bought Tom's screen and spoiler and really put it through its paces on the way back from the ACE Cafe Overland Travel Event. I can now say that it deflects or attracts snow very well :D

i ve tried TT screen and was not good for me - wind flows just to my visor and it was very noisy and anoying.

i ve bought wunderlich ergo screen "hoch" (=high) that is 10 cm (3,5 inch). It was much better. But i don t like the design and the way how it is mounted (does not fits perfectly, so there is always some tension)

so i ordered TT desierto - design is excelent, hope functionality too... It will be in april, i ll let you know...

Do you see any rally bikes with clear windscreen??
I´m 190cm, so I can see well over it..
