As an aside, how did you black out the Barkbuster logos?

They are the barkbuster storm replacement plastics which I put on for winter and never got round to putting the originals back on for summer. The storm plastics are just stickers rather than embossed lettering so just peel off with a bit of encouragement.

Wunderlich screen

I'm also 5'7'' ride a 650 twin and desperatly need a higher screen.The MRA is
fine with you,What is the hight of it? If top of screen extended
parallel to the ground (when you are on the bike) reaches you in what point of
face? Do you have any opinion about Wunderlich screens?

I have just fitted a Wunderlich screen from NN and it works for me at 5ft 8 and a half! I tried it on Friday amongst gangs of hells angels and other outlaw types riding around the Bristol area in various different directions in search of the Bulldog Bash. I guess satnav doesn't look too cool on a chopped hog!

I had a TT before and, for a tinnitus suffer, there was too much noise and turbulence at helmet level, particularly at err... motorway speeds. The extra 50cm or so makes a lot of difference and with a lowered seat and a slight crouch I can get in relatively quiet air. It doesn't foul the screen even with TT handguards and 20mm risers fitted.

It is 4mm thick and because of the height there is a slight amount of wobble, mainly due to the rubber mountings, but after a couple of trips I have got used to it and the improvement in protection makes it worth it - I even forgot to put the chin piece down on my Shark Evo on the motorway because of the improved protection and visor up riding at lower speeds is easy. The height is 465mm but that is from the top of the main beam case, not the dip, and is 160mm above standard. (I wish screen manufacturers/sellers would be more specific about dimensions and where they measure from).

All in all a very good screen although I am not sure about the thick black band around the base which didn't appear on the advertising - the TT looks better I think but doesn't work as well and that is the main thing for me. In search of elusive perfection it did cross my mind to try an MRA spoiler on it some time in the future but that may be overkill!

TH I'm a bit disappointed initially as the Wunderlich screen on m old F650GS single was fantastic.

It is a height thing - your extra 2 inches on me (fnarr fnarr!) plus my lowered seat is the difference, if I raise myself slightly (fnarr fnarr! 2) on the pegs I get the same turbulence and noise as I did with the TT screen. The tall screen options I have looked at (mostly pics on this thread and makers/sellers websites) like CeeBaileys, Eagle and Metal Mule (yuk!) are about the same height as the Wunderlich. Somewhere back on this thread I think there is a post with 2 pics of Isotta screens (below), one is the same as the Wunderlich and the other is taller, but I don't know how you would source one. Maybe you could pioneer the MRN vario spoiler on Wunderlich screen super-option - it would give you an extra couple of inches where it mattered (fnarr fnarr ! 3 - sorry)

ok, did 800 miles with the new screen at the weekend, 2-up with luggage in torrential rain, so it was a good test. it's actually very pleasing. i've tried various alternatives and found them all wanting. i'm 6"1' with an arai tour X and with the peak find there's a fair bit of buffeting with every screen. the metal mule/powerbronze was far too noisy and just uncomfortable, so tried a little 650 screen from a friend's bike, which was much better, but ultimately the stock 800 screen was the best i could find. i contemplated the cc bailey's offering and some others, but felt that if they didn't turn the bike into a 2-wheel equivalent of a berlingo or some such pope-mobile, they wouldn't be much of an improvement. MRA with their little spoiler thing going on are actually playing around with the air-flow much more and wisely i think, decided to put it on a smaller screen rather than the original bigger screen as advertised. the effect is good. it's by no means perfect as there's still some buffeting at speed, but much less than with the stock screen and it's much quieter. i had the spoiler (which you can change the position of on the move) up full tilt on the motorways and in fact all the time, and it's nice. the fact is that the 800 has a higher position seat like most enduro bikes (unlike the 12 which you sit down into) and so consequently you're more exposed. you kill the looks of the bike with the screen you would need to really shield you and it would prevent you off-roading as well as having to look through the screen whilst on road, which is a pain. Plaudits to MRA for getting this one right. There's also more wind protection due to the width of this screen, without fouling my TT hand-guards. My screen quest is over! Adventure tanks (but not the stupidly priced TT efforts) might be the next project?
hope this ramble is helpful as i'm sure there are others who've been equally keen to get the right screen.

I did about 250 miles at the weekend and after also trying variable positions with the sploier - ended up leaving it full tilt.

I'm 5'10" and tested the screen up to 120mph (on a private road obviously) and found it to to be far quieter than alternative offerings.

I tested the air flow as best I could at usual motorway speeds by putting my left hand above my Tour-X until and feeling for the 'air stream' which seemed to be only just clipping the peak on my lid and then about 2-3 inches clear of the crown.

It's the reduction in noise which does it for me - coupled with having the facility to adjust the spoiler in warmer conditions for a bit of cooling.

My screen quest is also over - at last

I just removed my MRA screen and sending it back to HPS. Was not really happy with it, it felt like the wind is hitting me straight in the eyes, with sunglasses it's ok, but without not so nice. I have tried all different "spoiler" positions, but no real difference. I have put my Puig screen back on again, so it's back to the drawing board for me.

My screen arrived within days of my saying I wished I hadn't bothered.

It went on easily enough and looks ace on the magnesium model.

I've found I actually prefer it at the lowest setting. I'm 6'5" and find that the low setting takes all pressure off my torso but leaves my helmet in relatively quiet air. Higher settings made things noisier.

Its the same setup that Tom Murphy started off with a while ago, then passed on to Everywhere Virtually. Unfortunately, as Tom did noticed, its not suited to a taller rider, so i've got 2 options, either start from scratch and sell off the TT screen and MRA spoiler or try to cut down the TT screen a bit (wind hits me in the eyes causing buffeting round the helmet) to overcome high speed buffeting.

Been out on the bike today trying the mra screen, i would say it takes the majority of the wind blast off in its fully up position and makes the wind noise in my lid a little less harsh so iam happy enough with it.
I feel that this may not be the screen to get if you are a tall rider (i am 5 11) i was lifting myself out of the seat to see how it works and the wind is directed under the peak of my Arai but thats only my experimenting .I would give the overall screen 7 out of 10 for quality and construction and performance

We have been burned.

BMW has changed the parts under warranty, they know that the problem is caused by these screens will not change and more.

Hi Antonio, and thanks for the warning. The weather in the UK has been so poor that there is currently no danger of plastics melting through a 'magnifying glass' effect, but please keep us informed.

Blow me down with a feather. This very same effect happened to me in the rather temperate climes of Manchester today. I noticed the melt on the top of my dials.

The bike was parked in an east west direction with the sun moving around from the south. It would catch the screen somewhat side on. I'm amazed and now kind of pissed off. I could just forget about it as one of those things or follow it up with TT.

I've been following this thread since I got my new f800 09 GS in March, and here is my experience.
Firstly, without boasting let me say that I'm 6 ft tall, but with a short left leg: inch and a half shorter as a result of a childhood accident. I love the GS but seat height was an issue as a result.
I found the original screen too low for long distance running and general touring so went for the BMW touring screen. At this stage I had the high seat; I know, I know, but a man has his pride! Result was windblast at upper chest level, uncomfortable.
Thats when I discovered this thread.
Then I tried the Metal Mule screen. Windblast at neck level, or perhaps chin level. A long run to Southern Portugal riding close to the border with Spain was coming up, so sent away for a TT clip on screen extender in a panic.
It arrived on time and did the job; but didn't look great and windblast was now at visor level. My seat was changed for a low one at this time.

Anyway, where was I?
The combination of low seat, MM Screen and TT extender worked well enough; but!
Windblast right on visor, buffeting on arms and shoulders and loads of wind noise, but best option so far. Ran down to Portugal, good up to 100kph, less so at Mway speeds.
So finally went for CalSci screen from Jon at Heroblobs.
Lads, this is the answer. Now I can hear the Messerschmit-like bark of that 800! Quiet at 120kph except for bike sound!
Summary is that the CalSci screen is wider at top, more upright than the competition and I think the funny hole helps too. I can ride at 80 to 100kph with helmet open! I tried the 21in size, but Jon changed it for the 19in. For my size, 6ft just, this is the answer.
Glad I got it off my chest, you've all been very patient!

Screen options pictures

First thanks to everybody who chipped in with help, as I said I'm new to this, and thanks Lunchbox, I am now a subscriber/tosser but wasn't when I first started posting.
Now you can see the various screens that I've tried over the last six months.
First one is where I'm now at; CalSci 19in, suits me. More info at http:www.calsci.com available from Jon at Heroblobs in UK.
Second is Metal Mule screen superimposed on Calcsi, see comments earlier in thread. Info on this screen is in page 5 of thread, see BumbleBee posts..
Then we have Metal Mule with TT Extender, and finally BMW Touring screen on CalSci
I'm now at peace or is it in pieces!

That's a big screen Pete, I presume the 19in is measured off the top of the main beam cutaway which makes it nearly an inch taller than my Wunderlich. Does the hole work to reduce the effect of the vacuum/noise/buffeting?
