Being 6'4" I needed as much protection as I could get - started with the Touring screen and although this is fine it means that I get full blast from the shoulders up, but of 'clean' air so its liveable-with. I bought and fitted the Wunderlich Vario Ergo screen which sorts out the winter blast to the body but at full height/extension gives the most appalling head buffeting, resulting in headaches and 'permanently' blurred vision (while moving). So last weekend I purchased the deflector second-hand from ROVER of this parish - what a difference! Can still feel the wind, but only just and its so quiet on the 800GS now I need to be v. careful on the throttle and actually keep an eye on the speedo.
The only downsides are that with the Vario at full extension and the deflector on top, things move around quite a bit more; also having the deflector just below eye-line means looking through rather than over the screen quite a bit which takes some getting used to. But overall I think I've finally found the combination of bits which works for me.
PS Will have to remove the screen when MOT comes round because the large BMW handguards touch the screen on full lock (no reduction in the extent of the lock - they just touch) and according to my sources this is an automatic MOT fail.
