► Bashplates, crash bars and other protection

That's off road... :blagblah

I was on the beach doing some GPS Drawing for the BMW Motorrad site.

Something along the lines of

"Rudie thinks he's an offroader but he'd have sunk into the sand up to his neck on his overweight, bloated 1150 Tractor" :thumb

If you have an 800GS, then you can use the mounting kit that came with the stock plastic bash plate. No need for anything extra.

If you have a 650GS, then you have no stock plate, so you will need to buy a mounting kit also.

Kit consists of four rubber 'silent' blocks with threads on both sides, and long thin bolt at the front.

Careful when mounting with the rubber blocks, IIRC, the torque on those is very low I think 19Nm. Which is not much more than hand tight.

Adv-spec crash bars and skid plate have just turned up at the office :) Looking good and re-assuringly made. Shame I rode the SM in so they'll have to stay here until Friday :blast

Chris You might want to wrap the bars a little better to stop the rubbing in transit not that a few scratches will make a difference after I've dropped the bike

Adventure Spec Crash Bars

Adventure Spec crash bars left the shop in Manchester England on Tuesday at 3:30 pm and arrived at the house in Eugene, Oregon the next day less than 24 hrs later. Incredible! Mounted the bars. Everything--bars, spacers, s.s. bolts-- is the highest design and quality. The bars look fabulous and give all appearances of providing maximum protection. Anyone who orders these bars I think will be very happy they did. I give them a 10. The only criticism is the packaging. There was some marring on the finish because the bars were not properly bubble wrapped. Great job Adventure Spec!

Hi guys,
Sorry we've been quiet, we were at the Dirt Bike Show last week and as such out of contact(dont worry though, the production team were chained to a hot welding-set at work on your kit:augie).
We'll be shipping the first 15 sets of bars tommorrow with another 15 early next week then another the start of the week after. Basically we'll be caught up on orders within a fortnight and then be carrying a full stock.
OIf you placed an order on the 27th (before about 1pm UK time!)we'll be taking payment for the bars today and will let you know by email.
Sorry for the wait and I look forward to seeing these things out on the trail!:beerjug:

I have just placed my order (Multiple times by mistake!!). I hope I can get them in time for a greenaling day with some guys from the surrey trf!
Cheers,

Ernesto.

Adventure Spes crash bars,
the bars look superb but I am having a lot of hassle trying to get the left 100mm top bolt to screw in more than 5 turns in the "tightening up" process. There is still 25mm proud when the bolt feels like it is fully home. Very frustrating and after 3 hours of gentle meticulous alignment had to take the bars off and replace the BMW bolts minus crash bars. This does not tie in with the excellent workmanship in producing and manufacturing the bars.Any of you guys who have fitted them have any trouble with the top bolts?

Hi Tony

Welcome to the site.

Suggest you PM Aretsukisu as he appears to have fitted them without any problems!

To do this, however ..... you will need to subscribe to the site in order to receive / send PM's.

Might also be worth speaking to somebody from Adventure-Spec.

Let us know how you get on ...... I have a set on order ..... so declare a vested interest :D

Mike

TLW,s Adventure Spec crash bars

Mystic,
the bars are well made and look perfect. It is only one bolt that is giving me hassle but it is an important bolt. I have e-mailed Chris at Adventure Spec so his experts will hopefully have a solution. Knowing my luck I will have the only BMW in the world not happy to accept the Adv Spec Bars!
I will try and keep you in the loop.
