► Chains, oilers, sprockets

Just got a "TUTURO Auto Chain Oiler". Fitting it over the weekend. Its half the price of a scott and I SHOULD be able to fit it myself.
Fed up with spraying every night after my commute...

they will post to UK

i got caught short in Dusseldorf once !! and went into their store and bought a tin (as Mickey says, it does the job)

Looks to me that:

one of the white chain sprays they have in their on-line shop that I can see is very, very similar to:

The other Polo one is:

And as HG is a German company ..... Any thoughts from those who've used them if there's an difference?

The original chain on my VFR800 lasted about 11000 miles using chain lube. The replacement last 30000 miles using a Scottoiler and the back wheel etc. stayed cleaner than with chain lube (and yes I always allowed time for the solvent to evaporate before riding ;) ) - definitely worth the money on a chain driven bike :thumb2

I think it all comes down to your diligence. If you can't be bothered

Good point :thumb2 "am I bothered"

Yes :D and I can be bothered to do both :thumb scotoiler gives the one drop per min :D which I leave on that lowest setting and takes care of a continual feed in good average conditions :D

But when in heavy rain and more rain and arriving home in the rain (yep more than 1 drop per min), once back in the garage its on the centre stand chain dried off and more oil worked in yep and the sides :thumb2

same after a big ride :D why not check yr chain regularly :nenau have you seen the shite that collects hidden behind the front sprocket cover mixed with the off road stuff true grit, stays there until you can be bothered :eek

"Long Live the chain and all that ride with it" and routine maintenance of course :augie :beerjug:

Evening all, after a couple or three years away from Biking I am returning to the dark side (2 wheels good 4 wheels bad!)

:pullface

Am going to look at an F800gs on Fri(a 2010 with 2K on the clock)
My question is: should I fit a Scott oiler... & if so which one?

All my previous "Herman the germans" have been shaft drive so would welcome any info on this chain drive thingy.

(this old dog is never too old to learn a new trick)

I have the standard capacity Vacuum Scottoiler on my Varadero, Chain was replaced at 32k miles. If your going to use it for offroading don't bother with an oiler and buy the cheapest chain oil you can as it will only last 5mins in the dirt and water but if it's going to be for road use then fit one.
I did have the twin injecter fitted on it but removed it in the end as it put more oil over the wheel than it did the chain so i have left it with single injector on it

Try a LubeMan. (I think they've changed the name since I bought mine)

Dead simple,a bit like a manual Scottoiler. You don't need continual oil feed - at great expense. Just give it a squeeze every few hundres miles. And ... a tenth of the price of a Scott.

I have one on my ZZR1400, only 16,000 miles so far, chain is in great condition.

I'm thinking of getting an F800GS, I liked my 1200 sooo much but eventually chopped it in for an RT. Hence my interest.

This looks to be exactly the same as the Polo S100 link.

Hmmmmm, ive used the Polo stuff, and the Sdoc stuff......seems very similar, the Sdoc 100 cleaning gel, seems suspiciously like the HG cleaning gel too

and it does actually refill from the bigger tin, dead handy to take the small tin away with you on long trips

Yes to Scottoiler on a F650GS ;).
Had one fitted from new (last November). Chain didn't need any adjustment when at the dealers for 600 mile service  . So far only had to refil Scottoiler only once (standard size unit), and today was the first chain adjustment (just 1 flat on the nuts!! :P ). Thats with 3150 miles on the clock :D:D

Has anyone tried that Tutoro one? It sounds pretty good.

I've just fitted the new Tutoro Auto to my 2011 F800GS, its a very simple but clever design (it uses the movement of the bike to operate the oil feed via an upside down pendulum type design) - easy to fit and set up and no need to drill hole in airboxes/intakes or play around with the elctrical system. I've loaded it with scott oil, so far all is good.
