► Exhaust options/problems and CAT

Beowulf have said "Thanks for the feedback, ALL F800GS link pipes will be checked for ovality prior to despatch".

Can't be fairer than that can they!?!

De-cat pipes

Hello All

Has anyone swapped the stock pip with a de-cat pipe? Spotted this bad boy on Nippys website for just over £300 and might add it to my Xmas list.

I don't like the idea of chrome pipes on the 800, but will probably wrap them if I get the chance.

What I would like to know is:

1) Any performance increase?
2) Any sound increase / change?
3) I see here are wires that connect to the current cat, what do I do with these?

Edit:

4) Will it roger my fuel economy?

Cheers :D

If they are like all other Remus headers they are polished stainless steel and will turn to blue/straw colour very quickly.

If the pipes are double skinned the chrome shouldn't discolour. Maybe these are as I seem to remember the Remus headers are a different size and aren't compatible with something else I have on my bike. Was it the bash plate or the engine bars?

There should be a performance increase/fuel consumption decrease as the cat is fairly restrictive.

My freind mvs tony fitted some on his 800, they changed the note of the bike somewhat and i think they gave the bike a little edge over standard but not mega difference, dont think it made any difference to fuel economy, am sure he will be along soon to give a full informative review on the subject............then again it will probably be yay or nay hahahaha

I pondered this item myself ILMV, but the F8GS is more than enough power for me.

Cruises nicely @80mph (purrs like a lap cat), stay around 90-95 on the motorways.

On a side-note; SPOT 2 global messenger is out.

Aye the F800GS certainly quick, but I am just wondering if it will give me a bit more "poke" and perhaps a better sound out the back... mind you with my unsilenced akrapovic I usually roll past the police with the clutch in, don't fancy them testing it at the roadside :D

Edit: Like I said before I would also be looking to wrap them in exhaust wrap too, if have already burnt two holes in my trousers whilst I was fulling up, plus apparently wrapping your exhaust (thus keeping the heat in) is meant to improve performance too :D

Edit Again: One thing I have thought of, because the bike is direct injection does it not rely on some sensors in the catalytic converter?

Bugger, is this essential? I don't see why a manufacturer would provide a straight through exhaust if it would bork the engine?

If it is required does anyone know if the concept of modifying the aftermarket pipes to include this sensor is feasible?

I think there is a hole for the lambada sensor on the Remus pipes. It's the hexagon on the right (as you look at the piccy) just as the pipes changes from horizontal to vertical.

now then

not really to do with this topic, but what is a good silencer to put on the back of the 800?
on me WR i had an FMF set and loved the sound, is there a can that will give me a similar note??

OR would an FMF fit??

Cheers
Elliott

1. very little performance increase 2. a better exhaust note 3. lamber fits into remus headers 4. fuel economy has not changed pipes turn an goldy brown colour, dont fit with some engine bars (ok with su motech) had to heavily modify bash plate, and dont think i,d pay £300 if i,d tried before i,d bought them

Did mine misen.... cut the exhaust open and removed cat, re welded... sorted :thumb

No noticable increase in noise, speed or consumption, but I only did it to cater for the cheap low octane petrol in Iran, Pakistan and India ;)

Has somebody put some miles on with the LeoVince can? How does it compare? Apart from the sound is there any noticeable difference in performance?:drool

I've got over 1000km on an F650GS with the Leo Vince carbon fibre exhaust. No noticeable difference in performance but a lovely note (removable silencer in place) with lots of burbles and pops on the downshifts. Much throatier and less like a tin can than the original part.

akrapovic F650 GS

Has anybody put an akrapovic exhaust on the new 650 twin? I've been thinking about it but want to know if it has any bad effects on the engine mapping - or anything else? My husband had them fitted on his KTM 990 Adventure and has suffered a really snatchy throttle ever since, it's been back to the dealer a couple of times but with no marked improvement.

Thanks in advance for any comments,

Yes i have it on my F650gs twin ordered it from the bmw catalogue when i bought it new last year (58 plate) its even stamped BMW and takes up BMW waranty.

Its a great sound pops occasionaly when de throtling in 3rd. have ridden loaner 650 and 800 with standard pipe (and i dont like the plainer sound). the akropovic titanium does what it says on the can, lighter and increase of power! it has a nice throaty burbling through the gears. and a plesent rumble its loud but not obscene. just enough to grab car drivers attention that you are their! (noisier pipes save lives):thumb :thumb2

what I would like to know is if anyone has fitted the nippy norman polished stainless pipe without cat & what the effect is?
