► Exhaust options/problems and CAT

I already have purchased remus system Hexacone, so my old original pipes with cat removed are available for reasonable price. If interested, send me message. I won t need my old pipes any more. Remus is expensive, bud sounds great :)

Thanks Jarax .... already looked at an aftermarket system, including the Hexacone ..... bit pricey is an understatement! :D Right now just got too much other stuff to get to prep the bike for the trip! Dependant upon price, could be interested in your s/hand pipes though .......

...second question... no problem with unleaded fuel without cat, of course.. the only change is that engine gives more power and more noise :)

Think I could live with both of those! :D

I'm sure I read on advrider.com that the CAT is self cleaning. Once you go back to unleaded it cleans itself through after a certain amount of time.

Good to know! Thanks. :thumb2

so it would be OK to use a tankful of leaded should the need arise.

My question is ...... would it be OK to use around 30/40 tankfuls! :nenau

Thanks all for your input .... keep it coming!

Mike

mabye you read that on advrider, but the true is, that the best way how to destroy CAT is to use leaded fuel.
When leaded fuel is used, cat system is beeing constatntly messed up with Pb exhalations. Exhalations sticks on CAT surface and aviod cat to work properly forever. That's the reason why everybody remove CAt before trip to asia...

You can buy aftermarket exhaust pipes without cat (www.remus.com), but my journey started too early, so no aftermarket solution was available, i had to improvize :) Also pipes are not cheap fun :(

No cat.

'Before i left i fitted the Remus down pipes, ie not cat, with the Metal Mule end can (reduces width with their panniers) but didn't have time to get the fuel map changed to low octane fuel, which i wanted to. Currently in Bamako, Mali, after doing about two thousand miles on poor quality fuel and the bike is running amazingly well. Fuel consumption is the biggest thing you notice, you probably get 10/15 % less miles to a tank... as for power output, a slight decrease, but in the countries with poor fuel there is also usually lower road speeds anyway, so that will not have any effect really.

End can 650 GS twin

Just to let you know I recently had a new can fitted to my new 650 and it has made it sound soooooo good and run smoother somehow (not sure how)
Did not have to have it re-jetted or anything. The can I got was from Two Brothers Racing, I got mine at Jordan bikes in Gildersome, Leeds. There are other dealers starting to stock them apparently, trust me you will love it.
How to make a BMW sound like a Ducati without the rattley clutch !!!!!:bounce1:JB

Price

I got it pretty cheap because of my job (good advert I suppose) but I will find out and post reply tomorrow if poss. Will get pics as well. Basic chrome finish but looks are not everything the sound is awwwwwwwesome. Every set of lights I have to sit revving the throttle it is quite sad really, but every one I talk to loves it so it isn`t just me !!!!!!!!!!!!

Certainly looks the part.

Terry, they haven't got it listed on the website yet. Can I be nosey and ask you what the silencer cost and does the baffle come out?

yes the baffle does come out:eek:

The reason why its not listed on there website as yet is cause I took my bike in as the pattern model for the exhaust and rad grill so the pictures was only taken today for there website today
I have just beat them to it

give them a call
They also do one for the 1200gs

I am not related etc to this company just very happy with there product and service :thumb2

A couple of thoughts, you might want to hide the details of your number plate ;)

How does the number plate like the exhaust?

What a prat I am

After thought is a wonderful thing - covering exhaust would have been a good idea !!!
It looks like it is close to number plate on the picture but it actually nowhere near so is no problem.

Why?

This has been an issue on here before

Loads of registration numbers available for people to see, to clone, in the magazines, on the road, in the showrooms etc. What's the problem?

If someone wants to run around with my number on their bike then fine, I can usually prove where I was at any given time, roughly.
Suit me fine to be able to say that there is someone else got my number ... might just get me out of trouble, not in it :augie

i agree. i think it's a little paranoid and wouldn't worry about it bikeinstructor.

Who really cares if old mate shows his number plate :blagblah.........the REAL issue is what is the exhaust like? It looks good...does it sound nice?

Hi,

Has anyone ordered the Akropovic pipe/silencer that's listed as an accessory in the "Unstoppable" catalog? I'd love to know if it truly is 5 lbs lighter, and also how much louder it is than stock.

For the record, I don't actually WANT anything noisier, but love the weight savings.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

PS: My dealer here in San Diego CA today queued up my order in BMW's production system. Crossing fingers we're 60 days out from ridin' baby! :thumb

Just picked 800 up on Friday and so its early days for serious comment but I have the Akropovic fitted. I chose the exhaust after a test ride. The noise is throaty and growling at higher revs compared to the standard but not too bad on the ear while riding. Cannot comment on the weight savings ... just went for the noise :)

I'm not sure if there is any extra power gain but I had one fitted from new. As for sound, the difference is massive when you take the decible killer out. It has a deep burble and although its noisier than the stock, it's not to bad at all. I love the sound and when you shut the throttle off, then you get a popping noise which is superb. I think it looks great compared to the stock one as well, smaller and seems to sit in tighter to the bike. If you can get your head around the price, go for it. Ask your dealer if he can give you some discount, mine came out at £440 inc vat. If you ever sell your bike, you will be able to sell the akro seperate and it will still fetch good money.

I have the mechanical skills of a gerbil and need to improve. In the meantime, how did you remove the akro decible killer out?
