► Exhaust options/problems and CAT

Mine does it all the time on my 800GS, with the unsilenced Akrapovic it wounds awesome :), especially when navigating under some bridges near my house :D

If that's your explanation Tim, I might modify it so it does it on the press of a button :D

I cant comment on the GS bikes, but my Aprilia Shiver used to do it if I closed the throttle too quickly (V-Twin lump). Sounds great! I believe it is all part of a twin engine with fuel injection? I dont really know a lot about engines, but I have never had the same thing happen on a four cylinder bike..........

Mind you, the Shiver used to make the windows in the high street at Matlock shake when I went past anyways, so a bit of popping wasnt a problem :D

:beerjug:

Well mine pops if I give it some high revs with the clutch in.
It pops a little bit if I snap the throttle of (but I dont like doing that 'cos of chain + sprokects)
But sometimes it lets out a series of almighty pops when I slowly close the throttle after a medium-high rev gear.

I hate to say this Sam but the Remus sounds lower and quieter. :tears

I'm still on the fence about zorsts. I'm not unhappy enough to get a new one just yet. My criteria is loud and nasty :augie

That's most likely where I had the recorder rather than it actually being quieter. It's a fair bit louder at idle in real life, and under load it's a LOT louder :thumb

Oh, and it is about 1/2 the weight of the stock can....

Well pc speakers wont do anything like this justice but for obvious reasons aftermarket cans will be louder:rolleyes:

It will defiantly get louder the more you use it, and they might be little bits of packing come out but no need to worry about it. Its just little bits of leftovers.
Have one on my f8s bloody brill and great lookin:thumb2

I think I need a live and in person demo :thumb

chain snapped

No sounds clips as its just been picked uo by BMW assist:blast Chain snapped
For fitting its a doddle, just dont forget to take the rubber plug of old and put into the new one:augie..Ten minute job if you have the spring hook thingy.
Realy recommened this zorst

Where have I heard this before - my 800gs is on its third chain in about 5000 miles. There was a thread on this site for all those of us who have suffered with this CZ chain problem. It is probably a bad batch but BMW will admit nothing. I have reported it as a safety defect to VOSA and they are investigating. I have also emailed CZ and will be writing to MCN about it (see their piece on BMW heading the recall list and Kevin Ash's article on BM quality deterioration in the July 1st issue).

Like most sufferers I have now fitted a DID heavy duty chain at my own expense and stopped worrying!

:comfort
my stock 800gs chain still doing fine at 8125miles..
i havent yet adjusted it any time... just using Belray's super clean chain lube every now and then to maintain it, that's all.

Twalcom, any one use their products?

Does anyone have their exhaust?
http://www.twalcom.com/home.php

I have seen some vid on youtube and it sounds pretty gruff (good) with out the dB reduce in place.

I was also wondering if the exhaust sits close enough to the bike to install balanced pannier racks, any info?

Have decided to go for Metal Mule panniers using their balanced system of new Scorpion end can and equal sized panniers. The panniers themselves are unfortunately on back order but I received the new can and pannier rails at the weekend. The can is very pretty and sounds good. Thought you'd like to see some before and after pics. It does make you wonder why BMW pick such an awful ugly sticky out can in the first place.

After

Of course the pannier rails spoil the look but they make excellent fairing protectors for when I inevitably drop the bike

Just wondering if any other exhausts will work with the MM balanced panniers?
I guess the way to tell is to measure how much wider the exhaust is at the widest point of the rear (tank)?
Any one have the measurement for the Scorpion exhaust or any other brands?

Twalcom QD exhaust for F800 GS

Anybody heard of/tried this exhaust? It's $400 vs. $900 for the Akrapovic...
