► Exhaust options/problems and CAT

Hey Mark,

Many thanks for your comments, i managed to get them to align using that old method of a marker pen and a welding rod to in-between the faces to get then to sit just right, then used masking tape to hold it together whilst I tacked a couple of welds on before going to town with the tig.

Thanks for the info. I was also thinking welding rod. Brilliant idea. :thumb2

Did you just obliterate the catalytic converter or did you manage to get it out intact? There's money in those, you know.

Keeping the bulb will also keep it looking standard, which is always a good thing :rob Thanks for the pics. :clap

That looks a real professional job mark! If it does what you say it does I would be really interested in putting some work your way!!

Hi Nugget

if your interested I used to live in the Oxford are and find myself there more often than not so i could pick up the exhaust from you and deliver it again if you were interested or you could come across to me and watch while I do it all there and then.

Don't hesitate to give me a shout should you need anything including servicing anything else that needs doing including re setting the service clock.

Regards

Mark

Brilliant !! Any side effect after that? Will the co2 sensor go chaotic? Thanks

Guys

The lambda sensor will have no effect as it is placed before the cat and as such the gasses are unaffected.

Cheapest and best mod so far and i have done a few to my bike so far, mmmm what shall I do next.

Looks a great job. Forgive my ignorance, but any legal issues with removing the cat? Is it likely to effect emissions etc and mot?

Cheers
Bob

Will affect emissions however these are not currently tested on bikes during MoT.

Any idea if emissions will be tested anytime soon? Would emissions testing form part of the eu testing that was being bandied about?

It's clear as mud right now. I've been reading a few articles and emissions testing for bikes has been on the cards for a while. As it stands we pay fines to the EU because we don't currently do the test (which is also why the riding test changes in a couple of weeks). The government will have to pick a time when there are enough modern bikes with low enough emissions on the road to introduce emissions testing. The EU also allows for bikes with higher emissions being charged at a higher rate on the tax disc.

Guess we'll all be chopping these in for 125's then... :augie

If and when they do bring it in they will only be able to do it for bikes going forward so will just have to sit tight and wait but you know how these things work it won't be happening any time soon.

Secret tool?

And the magic tool for removing the db killer from an Akrapovi exhaust is?
Why did I think it was just an allen key?, looks like i need a super thin socket to get in there.
Thanks in advance.

I gutted an F800GS exhaust on Sunday. Took me about "half-a-Sunday" taking my time. I got it gutted quite well, and even welded back on quite straight. :bounce1 I'm looking forward to sticking it on the bike and seeing what's what. I took a lot of pics, so I can post them up here if anyone's interested.
I also asked Dave Wood Racing for a quote on a Rapid Bike Evo... over £600 fitted and Dyno'd. :eek  Better be saving those beer tokens if I want one of those. :drool

Hey! I would really like to see the inside of the exhaust! Can you post pictures please! Thank you!!

Quick questions - what is the general consensus on whether to use exhaust sealant around the joins of slip on pipes?

Reason for question is that I have a Fuel exhaust on my F800GS and it gives a rasp when revved suggesting it may not be sealing well around the joins. I didn't use any sealant when fitting it in case I didn't like the noise and wanted to switch back to standard.

What are your opinions?

I think a few on here advocate the rubber mallet option to push the two pipes together a little more snug. Mine stopped after about 12k and i no longer get the exhaust soot seeping from that seal...

What do you make of the Fuel exhaust? Much louder? Different tone?
