► Hand Guards, handlebars, risers and levers

I like these because of the styling and the fact it is a robust setup, very fit for purpose in terms of wind, lever and spill protection. Also spares are easy to come by should there be any real testing involved :augie

I like them too :D maybe for christmas :green gri

Thanks for posting the pictures they look realy good and a lot of protection there :thumb2

Very nice and streamline looking Media mark :thumb2, they remind be of the ones I have now from BMW F8 standard fit as in If you look at your last picture on our right view which is your left grip. They appear to be little over the top of the grip (as mine are now). I would call them lever guard biased which are so important to me.

Which is mainly down protection which serves the levers which is important.
Having returned from a trip (seems years ago) a new Tiger 8 thought it would be a good idea whilst stationary to take a picture of those pink squigly bends that filled up his sat nav screen but on reaching back to put his camera away behind him there was an imbalance and a tumble resulting in: but he was chuffed he got his picture, it took out an indicator also (no crash/engine bars either :blast)

where as in the pictures above from smythson looking good :thumb2 the bar is set down slightly from the centre of grip and the protector starts from the bar and goes up. I would call these hand guard biased which are so important to me.

I wonder if or do you know if there is a dual Lever and Hand Guard a true rugged look, sheilds :D , not dust bin lids or shovels but a big chunky rugged guard if you know what I mean?

I was hoping for some for christmas allmost set my heart on it but mrs christmas has informed me there is a £20.00 cap. if any one knows of such shields and if they do yearly £20.00 interest free instalments please let me know. :nenau

I could attach something to what I allready have that would please the misses no end :blast :green gri

Warning regarding Hand Protectors

I have had the BMW hand protectors fitted for over a year now. You should be aware that they greatly increase the risk of bending your handlebars in a fall. I have now bent two sets in 2 separate low speed falls. The latest fall has also bent the handlebar mount. At €100+ a pop, this is expensive!! Having siad that, I received a rotated fracture of my little fingure when I came off a different bike that did not have protectors. So I guess you pays your money and makes your choice? Hope this is useful?:beerjug:

Can someone recommend risers please...

I've had far too much play in my TT risers for 2 years and have had enough of it. Anyone on here recommend any risers that have no play in them? Don't want to go through 4 different makes until I land on the right ones.

Im lazy and i didnt feel like reading through eleven pages of threads for the bar risers info. (why doesnt the moderator spend some time and consolidate alot of these massive posts to take out the 'twoddle', not a criticism, a suggestion)

Anyway i bought some TT risers and followed the instructions (how hard can it be).... and im sorry but there just seems to be too much movement with them, surely this cant be right.... I do know how to take a bike to pieces so its not a dummass thing, i checked... twice....

Anyone else fitted these and actually got them tightenned up solid?
:comfort

I've got Barkbusters on, and in the five falls I've had, plus those of the previous owner (who rode it to Cape Town) the bars are still straight.

Probably due to the extra bracing provided by the BB support bars: they run all the way down past the levers, and whilst it's a pain for fitting bigger screens, it does brace the bars / provide a lot of protection.

F800 - Handguard options

I bought my F800 last June. Used. It came with the standard handguards but not the extra bits.

I find the coverage for wind and rain not great.

Can anyone recommend me the best solution ?

I hear the plastics from a 1200 work well, as do Barkbusters. Are there any other options or should i just buy the handguard extensions and screw those on ?

Do any of these options require new metalwork or are they all just add-ons to the existing ?

Perhaps I should nip down to the new Adventure Bike Store in Acton and see what they have on the shelf .. ?

Cheers in advance for your help guys :thumb2

We found ...

... the same on Jaq's F650GS but opted for these Wunderlich items rather than the naff looking extensions :nenau

According to Jaq, they made a significant difference and retain the original metalwork so conversion is a doddle :thumb

Well, I've ordered the Wunderlich handguards and a screen deflector.

i'll leave some thoughts once i get them fitted and had a ride with them both.

The 1200 guards work well. However, they do not fit your existing metalwork. Neither do any of your other options. The easiest fix is the add-on extensions.

How about Muff's, seem to be a very good solution. I get icy numb fingers even with winter gloves & large handguard/wind deflector. Using a pair of muff's, I can still wear summer gloves & don't get cold.

Val is in the vendor section.

+1 Barkbusters... I'm using the Storm plastics ATM as they offer a little more protection from the winter elements. Not quite cold enough for muffs.

... old chap; the wunderlich items as recommended above do indeed fit directly on to the existing metalwork ;)

I kept the BMW hand guards from my 2011 to find they don't fit the F800GS 2015.

So my dilemma is that I need some new hand guards that fit the > 2013 F800GS and accommodate the Kaoko cruise control and Toucano muffs later in the year.

Touratech are out of stock
