Locks

Right, finally made my decision, and went with the Stahlkoffer "City Koffers" for my F650GS... will be fitting them at the weekend!

Now, what do you other Stahlkoffer owners use as locks for the lid latches?

I've bought a set of four small padlocks, but it strikes me they'll rattle a lot when "making adequate progress." Are there any quieter alternatives?

I guess I could just use split-rings to make sure the latches stay closed, or re-usable cable ties, but that's not very secure...

Any thoughts?

I've just got normal padlocks on mine;

I thought about the rattling so bought some sticky backed foam off of fleabay for a couple of quid (zoom in on the pic and you can just make it out) . Does the job nice... never hear a peep out of 'em.

Stahlkoffer "Citys" on F650GS

Tis done! Here they are:

Pics removed at BLA's request. Aidan.

With Touratech rack (don't ask...) and Humvee reflectives.
Also a pair of "Bags2Cover" pannier liners, keep me shreddies dry...

Givi

As I already had a pair of Givi panniers and an old topbox, I went for the Givi racks. They went on quite easily and seem robust. There are lots of Givi items on Ebay, so these are a good cheaper option.

The whole set-up cost about £320.

Thinking about buying a set of vario panniers for my 650gs. Are the available anywhere else other than a BMW dealership?

Cheers,

Dave:)

Here in the USA there are some new sets available on eBay for about $550 USD for side cases without the mounting rail.... not sure that is it helpful, but it's worth a look perhaps?

Hi,

I've decided that I'm gonna fo for the Trax panniers of the STAHLKOFFER. Was wondering if anyone in the brighton area would mind meeting up for a ride so I could take a look at them? Cheeky I know :)

Cheers guys

hard to soft panniers...

Yesterday I shelved my hard cases in favour of soft panniers. As I'm less than a month away from a long long overland trip, I played around for some time over the luggage I want to bring. Various things influenced my choice for and against and you know the arguments, but the soft ended up being more advantageous in the end. I bought these new wolfman panniers from winding roads (martin is very helpful). I fitted them last night and got an aluminium plate made for the inside of the right rail to hang my 2L fuel bottle on as soft panniers obviously don't allow for that. They are 20L each bag and have been very well thought through. Besides that, they are really easy to attach/detach, will be completely waterproof, and will not bust my ankle off-roading (hurt it once before with the hard cases). £177 delivered.

Anyone managed to place an order with them, tried to do so, the site says they'll contact me with the details, and haven't heard of them in more than a week orso? Send an email, still no answer:confused:

I do need the rack as refered to above, since I've gone and bought the 1200Adv panniers, to fit on both my 1150GSA (with the use of the TT pannier rack) and on the 800GS with the Holan rack.

Grtz, Philip!
