Fantastic, the finish quality is second to none:clap. I have worked in the metal working industry an i know how hard it would be to get a finish like that. The racks are good and close like they should be. Sexy piece of work. The locks look stonger that TT. BMW and others. The only question remains, what is the price? I would say they will a bit on the expensive side, but justified.

i was quoted $1250 for the 8" safaris (pictured) and $1150 for the 10" odysseys. (edges not as rounded either, but 90l)

ps. the waiting list has over 100 names on it already! they haven't even shipped that many twins in the US i don't think

Those are not SW-Motech Trax bags, but genuine BMW F800GS BMW alloy luggage and ditto BMW racks.

Could you let us know the width and capacity of the BMW bags? It's looking like these or the jesse's for me and I'd like to compare the specs before plunking down my cash.

The more I read about panniers the more I wonder if I need them. After listening to the Mondo Enduro boys on budget travel I'm not sure if I want the extra bulk and weight. :nenau

I rode around Europe with a tank bank and an Ortlieb bag. Granted it wasn't convenient to access the Ortlieb because it was full but all the same. I do wonder. :augie

@ everywherevirtually:
I agree that one can live without mounted panniers on a one-person basis in many riding circumstances. I rode this thing for a month before getting my panniers and did quite well with two rollerbags (Ortlieb type). With careful packing routines - most used objects on top etc. - this concept makes the bike narrower and more lane-splitting-friendly etc.

However I use my motorcycles on a daily basis to/from work and all-year and never bothered to take a car license (hence no cage...). So for me the panniers make my daily life somewhat easier. I always bring along waterproof gear, several gloves (for different weather/temps), and often have a laptop computer with me for different purposes (GPS planning, picture storage, internet access etc.).

With these panniers I can store the laptop in a locked pannier, don't need the computer rucksack and can bring groceries and other shopped items happily along without the hassle of unfastening and opening a roller bag. I opted not to buy the BMW alloy top-box since I found it limiting the top-loaded luggage width etc.:beerjug:

Luggage plate

Hi all,

after the debarcle that is ordering from our favorite German accessory supplier, I may be in a position to supply rear luggage plates for the fancy new F650/800 twins.

all Laser cut Stainless Steel plate, with all fasteners and spacers needed, this pre production I have been running with has been well loaded up with a large Ortlieb bag and it fit's just fine, also very good fit for the BMW small softbag !

Not sure on pricing yet, but will sort out soon.

Any interest ??

I did exactly the same thing for my single 650, personally id be looking at a more parallel edging, yours seems quite tapered... Each to his own... I would be interested to know how much your going to be doing them for though, my last one, 5mm Ally, custom one of laser cut was 35 quid to me.. Obviously SS doesnt discolour like ally.

Top points on the idea though. Cant believe no response. Its one of the first things im gonna get.

the big question i suppose, how much mate?
I must say is the bmw alloy one is £35 and is very, very lightwieght i think its been punched from a spread out kitkat wrapper,
yours looks many times more substancial :clap

(want to swop one for an oiler?)

Put a post in the vendors of innovation section... you may get some responce in there.

alpos panniers

So the panniers have eventually been mounted. SW Motech quick release frames and powder coated balanced Alpos boxes with locks - £404 all in from Bykebitz (I powder coated them myself). So far so good...

Substancial [sic] or over-engineered?. I have the BMW rack and there is no way, no matter how tight your straps that it's going to bend or go anywhere. It's capacity exceeds that of the bolts holding it onto the tail, or indeed the load bearing capacity of the tail unit. Cetainly capable of taking up to any recommended weight limit.

The one i was shown was made from 1.2mm alloy, i dont doubt its fine and is fit for purpose but it certainly doesnt exceed the capacity of 6mm steel bolts:green gri

HI Si,

What is the capacity of the boxes, and the overall width? Just wondering how they compare to the Trax given that they use the same fixings.

Stevia and Twisticles. I'm about to head to the US for 10 days and won't get time to take more photos or measure, this side of leaving.

The fittings are dead easy. The frames come off in about 1 min for both sides, and the boxes detach in around 20 seconds. You basically turn 2 rings inside the boxes and that's them off - very very easy. I fitted them (easily) with a mate who has the TT system on his 1200 and he was very impressed by the set up and the solidity of the boxes when mounted.

I'm very pleased and think they look great in the black and am certain they will be more than up for the job. Powder coated by a company here in Ballymoney called Colorcote and they charged me £15 per box inside and out (no need for liners!).

Width-wise, they're pretty good. As stated elsewhere, these bikes have a fat arse anyway because of the tank, and whilst definitely not as narrow as the TT special system, they're not as wide as the Trax (and as they're completely squared off, are easier to pack and don't loose any space). Left side is 29L and right side is 36L. Hope this helps.

I got my variotop case yesterday and it looks sweet... Installing the lock and the backrest pads was very easy. The case mount plate looks trick too!
Now all I need is my bike :-( it has been delay 6 weeks
