Get the BMW pannier racks and panniers, then the SW-Mototech Alurack removable topbox rack with a Givi plate, then buy a Kapa topbox, will save a bit and dead easy to fit (four bolts).

Wolfman Racks and panners

Check these out, got them for Xmas from Winding Roads.

Wanted some aluminium panniers but after seeing the dramas they caused some other tosser after a crash on a recent morocco trip i decided on the soft panniers.

Could you provide us a link ?
Cheers

i used these for a trip to Mongolia recently, and they're absolutely brilliant. Much prefer them to my alu cases. they are tougher and much lighter. having said that, in a bid to get lighter still (they needs aluminium rails), i'll flog 'em (they're by no means pristine!) for the Giant Loop original bag.

Can these fix without the straps across the seat? Would be hopeless if you have a pillion? Also how much was the G-IT luggage rack?

I was wondering about straps as well, don`t suppose it`s possible to fit them under seat?
Otherwise seems like a great idea, a damm sight cheaper than alu panniers, lighter and hopefully narrower than ruddy great big alu panniers.
I was thinking of getting another make of rack but having seen pics and the way the panniers fit I think I will get Wolfman racks.

One question, what were the racks like to fit? I presume the bar under the tank/mudguard bolts the two halves together? and can the rack be fitted to another bike come trade in time or is it model specific?

Thought I'd seen these before, for some reason I thought they were on holon rails and as a package the job lot was around £470, however cannot find the thread or link to site......so not really any use at fekin all really....doh!!

I would have these on mine but, mine came with BMW boxes and I cant warrant buying bags as well.

I had the old grab rail on the back which obviously had to come off when the rascks went on so probobly not to much weight added)) also having never met you Si i dont know what shape you are (and this is not aimed at you) but in my experience the majority of GS riders are lets say a little more portly than they should be so rather than worrying about a few pounds on a aluminium rack lets use that gym membership and loose a little:augie

In answer to the other questions, the straps fit nicely under the seat, i just left them over the top so you could see the whole thing, and they were well easy to fit. even refitting the exhaust muffler.

Rode 80 miles in the pi ssing rain this morning and all contents 100% dry:thumb

Thanks for this, I fitted Givi racks to my F650 but then I thought the boxes way to wide when I tried fitting them on at the dealers. Paused for thought and realised that I liked the Ortlieb roll bag I had as it rolls down in size when you do not need all the capacity and is tough and keeps the kit dry. I also have a CBF 1000 with hard cases and they are ok but they would be a neater fit to the bike than the givis would be on the BMW So I was wondering if I could adapt soft luggage to fit on the Givi frames! the Ortleib cycle (push bike) panniers looked to have potential but they are expensive , I cant find a dealer with a set to see how easy they might be to fit and I did not want to risk the expense so I was resigned to hard Givi cases until I saw your posting. even better their web site indicates that they can have mounts for Givi so I am off to phone them and ask about that. Thanks for the lead. brian:)

I presume the racks bolt to the frame above the rear wheel, I have just noticed two threaded holes there!
What screen have you got fitted? I have fitted barkbusters like you so they must clear the screen.

No Problem Bri

Nige, They are really easy to fit, two bolts underneath and two on top, it comes with all the bits to fit it and as you can see by the photos it still fits well with the luggage plate on the back. it is also real easy to fit the bags to the racks with 2 straps and 8 little metal clips. they are extremelly sturdy, i think they will last a long time.

Its the metal mule screen which gives me about an inch gap with the barkbusters and the bars on full lock. i am 6 ft and i get a bit of wind buffeting on my shoulders and helmet but i like the feel of it and its bearable even at over 100mph

Thanks for your reply, I`m 5`10" and have a low seat so the screen should be good, the panniers look great, just what I need so thanks for posting pics.

Givi Trekker panniers

I have collected a pair of Givi Trekker panniers for my F800GS.
I thought I'd get them keyed alike. A little looking around seemed to point at the Givi z228 as the part number for the 3 case key alike kit.
Internet, ordered, delivered, happy!

It appears however, that the red keyed z228 barrels are not the same size as the silver keyed one that I removed!

So my attempt at keying the cases alike are stalled until I can source the silver keyed lock barrels.
I tried the red version but it was rattling around in the hole, and was too short to put a circlip on. :hammer:

Shame, as the cases are a nice bit of kit!
