insurance ctd...

Sure you can, it'll be in a locked shed in a sleepy village in Ireland! :aidan Usually northern Ireland is heavily penalised for insurance though and much worse than London (until recently I lived in Peckham for many years!). I'm sure they won't smile on communal parking though.

Consolidated: F650/F800 insurance

I thought I should share my experience today with BMW Insurance.

I have been with BMW Insurance for most of My BMW's over the last years.
Went to swap my insurance to my New awaited 800GS.
Guess what they wanted, £186.00 on top of my current policy which last year was for a 1200 RT and an 850R, both thses were worth 12k.
It gets worse they did not accept my BMW factory fit alarm and wanted a Thatham rated alarm fitted as well.! YIKES.
Now I can accept that a Insurance underwriter can charge what they see as the risk. But it pains me when they want me to buy another make of alarm.
I always thought that BMW Ins (Devitts) gave a really good bespoke service to us BM riders, not that I ever had a claim.
I guess somebody at NIG, the broker see's the new 800 as very hot property.!!

Whats this mean to all buying a new GS, Shop around. Good luck.

PS. see you at Vines next Sat morn. PADDY.
Thanks site sponsor ebike.

ebike are giving me £21 back on the 12. That's even after I took the security chains & disk locks off both bikes, and added on luggage, sat nav & bling.

Insurance

Sorry just to make it clear only the GS now. I think they see the new bike as the golden nugget. Only cost me about a tenner to add the 850 to the RT polcy last year.

I'm waiting.... renewed my insurance in January for the 650 Dakar... removing the F800ST ... no change in policy price with taking the F800ST off cover Mmmmmm

So, I asked, when I add the F800GS on in March there will be no additional premium then?

No answer...

I'm waiting

:beerjug:

OK so spent the morning getting quotes for my pending F800GS...

Bearing in mind I pay nearly £400 for TPT on a 7yr old Deauville currently, on account of where I live. So what was I offered for comprehensive on the 800GS?

  • AA insurance £9999 :nenau:nenau:nenau
  • CIA £1706 :eek::eek::eek:
  • Motorcycle Direct £1400 :eek :eek :eek
  • ebike £790 :(:(:(
  • BMW £285 :thumb2 :thumb2:thumb2

It's not quite the bargain 'special scheme' of the 800S or 800ST, but its a price I can happily live with :D

Huh, when I rang for my quote, they asked my about that...I told them BMW alarm, they asked what kind, I said "factory fit" and that was it. :nenau

Insurance Update

I thought I should update everybody.

I was unhappy with all this mainly due to the alarm and its lack of Thatcham rating.
Well one call to a nice girl at BMW UK and hey presto all is sorted.

I now have my little GS back with BMW Insurance . Only paying the £20 admin fee.

So a bit of common sense prevailed.

Thanks BMW / Vines.

Just got a price for f800gs,

works out roughly the same as my 2001 1150gs- £300 fully comp [bmw insurance]

not too bad:thumb

F800GS Insurance

Hi Folks,

Anybody else had problems with insuring the 800GS? I have a multi-bike policy with Royal and Sun Alliance (through Bennetts) and they couldn't added it to that because R&SA would not insure it.

I think its just because its new but it has been as real pain as all my attempts to get somebody to sort it out failed and I had to start up another policy with zero NCD (good job I'm an old git :) ) and I probably wont be able to pick my bike up before end of next week now with the snail mail post that Bennetts use

Anyway, just though I would warn people as when I finally found somebody vagley helpful she said they only had 3 companies currently offering cover for the 800GS so unless you are with one of those three you might hit similar problems.

Just got to count the days till end of next week now when I say goodbye to my old faithful 1150 and say hello bumble bee !!

I had ebike insurance on a Goldwing and a Kawasaki ZZR1100. I sold the kwacker and got money back. I added the F 800 GS and was not charged anything to do so! I only have a couple of months to run on the insurance which might have something to do with it. (Both bikes fully comp.)

I just arranged mine yesterday via Motorcycle Direct. I had to go for a multibike policy becasue my Tiger insurance runs out a week before i trade the bike in for the new GS on 5th April and i cant just buy one weeks insurance to cover the ride to the dealers.

Motorcycle direct have promised me a £100 refund with no admin cost once i only have the one bike on the 5th.

I believe the insurer is Equity Red Star.

Insurance

I rang Bennetts today and was told my current policy insurer (for an F650GS) wouldn't cover me for the 800GS.
They then quoted me £526 for a new policy with another insurer plus £30 cancellation fee for the old policy!!!
As I'd already paid Bennets £25 on two occasions last year to amend my policy I decided it's esier to let the policy lapse at the end of term.

5 minutes later I took out a new policy with e-bike for £250 with lower excess and complimentary legal and breakdown cover.
One good thing about e-bike is you can print the cover note immediately - useful if you're in a rush.

I won't use Bennetts again as they're like RyanAir - everythings costs extra.
(Hang on, aren't BMW like that too? - Doh!!):blast

Hang on a minute!!!

This is a forum for those of us who choose to ride BMWs.
We buy our bikes from BMW dealers (mostly).
We adorn our steeds with BMW accessories.
Some of us wear BMW clothing (i.e. Twat-suits !).

So, why do we not try BMW insurance for our nice new F800GS's??

They're the insurers carrying BMW's name, even thought the firm is NIG.

So who needs Bennets/E-bike etc etc. If NIG can't give you a quote on a BMW, who can.

Go see your BMW Motorrad dealer.

Don't think I will be going back to Bennetts either. Everything is extra and they seem to take ages plus it took three goes before I got somebody worth talking to. I would have cancelled the multi-bike policey but it was just over 6month old so it had lost 80% of its value  and then they was a cancellation fee :mad: !

Useful to know you can print the cover note yourself with eBike - that would have been handy but too late now.

Hiya. I managed to get my 800 insured before the launch day with ebike, it was listed within the BMW section.
Not only that, it was cheaper than my 1150's insurance and that was a few years old - £140 for the year - GO TO EBIKE!!:thumb

Tried that - was going great until I said, so how about my KTM - "oh that means you will have to have a standard Devitt policy". All of this is as you say with NIG who Bennets had already quoted me for but BMW Motorrad were dearer.
