That actually looks like a decent tool roll and I'm glad to finally learn what's in it! Thanks for posting.

i would include a long punch in the kit. i changed the tyres on my bike yesterday and had a torrid time trying to get the back wheel in. in the end i had to take the rear caliper apart and remove the brake pads (which are now almost non-existent). To get the caliper pin out, you need to hammer a punch from the chain side. Other than that and some grips/ screwdrivers, the tool kit above seems like it'd do the trick.

Soon....

FWIW, I e-mailed Hex.code, and received the reply that they expect to have this functionality (and a few other surprises!) available by year-end.

Can GS-911 reset service reminders?

This is one of the most asked questions in recent months - At present this is not a function in GS-911, however, this is already available inhouse and working, and will be avaialable in a Beta version around late November '08.

Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth, this is a list of stuff included in the OEM service tool kit that is offered as an optional accessory.

Anyone know what size batteries go in the mini-torch?

If you can't figure that out you have no business buying those tools:D

Standard batteries....I'm fine with. Watch batteries, I'm not.
How many different size watch batteries are there?...Hmmmm they could be hearing aid batteries....Got any extra??? :rob:augie

K&N air filter?

Has anybody already tested them on F800GS?
having the cat removed the K&N filter should be a good add.

Sadly, the K&N allows much more dirt thru the filter.

Try a Unifilter (TT catelogue), it is what they used in Race To Dakar. They are a foam filter rather that a cotton weave. They are a thicker material thus should do a better job

NB: K&N state they can't ensure warranty compliance if the bike is used off road.

What data does BMW log

Ok, I dont want to upset the puritans here, but I would like to know what data is logged or may be extracted by my BMW dealer at first service.

Why....
I have run in a lot of motorcycle engines (quite a few for competition puposes) and I use a technique that I was tough many years ago and have followed for breakin of every bike I've owned or run in for other folks since.
Absolutely no oil burn issues or engine damage in 30+ years.

I have not yet recieved my 800GS but have some concerns about what BMW will say about my deviation from their 'run in' methods.
I dont want to blow my warrantee with BMW, but then again I dont want to follow their engine break in process either.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks from downunder.

I don't know for certain but when I was with Scania the data was very broad spectrum

It did cover time at max RPM also engine temps

It's so simple to log the data when you're using it so I would say it'll all be recorded

I've run in many BM's your way. Never a problem or any oil useage. I've left on a 5600 mile trip just after the first service (at 800 mi.) without adding any oil during the trip. I stay with the rules for about 70km's then run them hard. Others run in gently and seem to use oil for 18-20000 miles.

Enjoy the new moto!:thumb2

Don't know the extent of the logging, but I can give you an example of what they do...
I had the common problem problem of wearing the back brake pads very quick to the point where the disc was scored. When I complained that I hardly used the brakes the service manager pulled out a piece of paper telling me how many seconds I had used each brake..
I'd guess they'd log some other data to do with revs etc.

Why not just ask your dealer if your method is acceptable?
