► Paint, panels and graphics, also paint problems

I got some "helicopter tape", a load cheaper than a pre cut kit, but you do have to spend a bit of time making a template -

Paint Problems

I had the yellow panel on the faux tank replaced because the paint had started to blister under the lacquer. Now the lacquer on the left faring (above the BMW badge) is peeling off. I don't use any cleaning chemicals on this so it just seems like a bad paint job. If I were BMW I'd make these bikes more slowly but more thoroughly!

I was at the TT travel event this weekend and spotted this....

Depending on your perspective this could be considered a paint problem :augie

Excellent Jon. I dunno, I am tempted to customise my bike too. Maybe not this colour granted, but something a bit different. It's easy enough to do with the 800 because of the nature of the panels etc.

Maybe we should hold a photoshop competition and invite the winning contribution for a curry on brick lane with us?

From experience in the auto industry, paint problems can sometimes be localized in a particular run of parts. Can you share your build date?

Just picked up my Yellow 800GS here in Central Ohio on Saturday!

SJ that's true about the customising. The panels come off really easily and would be a doddle to rejuvenate or use another colour.

I'm a web designer by trade so doing a photoshop mod in advance is a good idea :thumb2

I quite like SW Motech's all black version. I have more photos that I will post on my Flickr account tonight of The F800's in various states of de-construction but for now I have posted a selection on my Flickr account here...

Tank Protection??

I was wondering if there's a way to protect the tank from scratches.
I noticed that I keep scratching my tank (650gs) when i get on/off with my jacket, belt etc. Apart from using a tank cover i have seen on other bikes magnetic protectors or stickers.
Anyone using anything like that? Where can I get them?

Hein Gericke do a transparent protective film / sticker which protects the paintwork. £5.99 per sheet 20 x 30cm.
Catalogue number 37191220000

i purchased 3 ft of scotchcal and made my own. $24US. did a bunch of frame tubes as well as paint and:beerjug: headlight.

I've seen kits like this advertised for a while now. Not sure what they look like installed though

I have this sort of thing on another bike - lots of plastic!

It works well enough and if you look at the centre of a panel you will not see it's there - if it has been applied well.

BUT, you will notice the edges where the plastic finishes and the stuff isn't that easy to apply where excess material (eg around concave curves), needs to be dealt with.

I use it to to stop scratching from zips and it does this well - I'm not bothered if folk can see it's on the bike.
