► Post pics of your F650/800GS

That's not nice. I saw a white gloss 800 at Vines last week that was equally gopping. I take it that the white is the 010 model?

Why don't BMW use that engine to build a true adventure bike that's robust and with top notch suspension along the lines of the KTM 640 ADV instead this latest 'commuter bike':nenau

The Africa Twin almost had it right as well yet the trend moves away to road orientation or naked offroader:confused::confused::confused:

Can't argue with you there.

BMW market the F650/800GS as an 'enduro'. So does it have hinged brake and gear change levers, a wide side stand footprint, decent footpegs, adjustable front suspension, high-enough handlebars...? DIF! I would love to design a proper offroader based on the 800cc engine but with a total emphasis on improved reliability.

Good grief Tim, you have only just sorted the problems of your first one!
The problems were never adequately sorted, so this is a partly funded replacement.

Although it's a GS this will primarily be a road bike for the UK. I'll be using the Tenere for adventure riding.

And how many 640 advs did they sell? The top spec suspension etc made it expensive when new, and I think KTM realised that most people's adventures were a bit less adventurous than they initially thought..!

How much does a brand new 1200 ADV cost with all the bells then another £1000 worth of suspension?

Worldwide there were massive sales of 640s, surely even with KTMs past feux pas record they'll understand that an expensive bike doesn't make anyone an adventurer....we see that here.:augie

It's a bit bright. :)

It seems all 2010 bikes have the new spec chain (silver instead of black).

Within the first 35 miles however, the bike stalled twice, both times at lights. The second time I dropped it and scratched the bar end. :eek I'm wondering whether it has a recent fuel map...

All else aside, Nice Orange Tim!!! :thumb

'Cos they know that they'll sell more 'adventurised commuter' bikes than a true adventure enduro....and more sales=more money :(

nice one hope they sorted the problems that were posted on here.
p.s the lord loves a tryer:toungincheek

Few pics of my 800

I have had it about 4 months now, I previously had a W reg 1150, then a 04 GSA then an 02 GSA, when I got on to this it felt very high and skinny.

I have changed the screen to one which actually does something above 50mph and the touratech handguards are very effective too. The beowulf can adds a nice deep rumble, bit too loud without the baffle but spot on with it in.

I love the lightness compared to my old GS's and theres a definite improvement in handling too (no chicken strips on the battlewings:augie).
The seat desperately needs fettling so probably a trip to Viking Vinyl soon I think.

I am undecided whether it's a keeper at the moment, if I do decide to keep then the following mods will be a must;
Uprate the lights, probably with some auxillary HID's as they seem to burn the reflector of the main unit.
Crash bars and sump guard from GIT.
Mount a centech fuse panel so I can attach a Quest GPS and an autocom.
Fender Extender to prolong the life of the engine finish.

Tommyboy, what's the quality like on the Beowulf can?

Does it seem solid enough and are the seams well closed?

What about fit?

Any info appreciated, I'm thinking of getting one mesel'.

For the money I think it is very good value.

It is well built and comes with a life time guarantee, welds are good and rivets tight.

The only piece that was slightly poor was the link pipe, it was very slightly oval where it mates with the pipe from the cat. A quick squeeze in a vice saw it ok though.

I would definitely buy one again.
