Argh! So its a marginal kind of assistance from BMW... if you have the EWS error they can start the bike at the roadside, long enough for you to ride to your dealer. Apparently you can stop the engine on the kill switch, as long as you don't remove the key.

Not much good to me at rush hour when my dealer is the other side of the M25 and closes at 6pm.

Looks like another morning off work tomorrow. :thedummy

Matt,
That's really bad luck. I was lucky enough that the temporary fix was all I needed at the time but it won't suit most I imagine.

Can you get the serial number of the newly installed EWS that failed on your bike? The last three digits seem to be the important bit. mine are 247 and I had thought this release was OK but as your unit is newer(?) this may no longer be the case.

OK, all sorted now. Credit to SLM who skipped lunch to get me back on the road in less time than it takes to drink a coffee!

Apparently, the little plastic clip that holds the electrics socket in place in the ring anntenae was broken. As the clip is part of the ring antenna they replaced it anyway (again).

in the future if I had an EWS error I'd be tempted to whip the tank panel off and check that the RA is still connected

So, just to be clear, this is not your average recall-style ring antennae fault, this was ALL MINE!

EWS Failure

Well I am a wee bit annoyed.

Went out to the GS this morning and she would not start.

Yellow light and EWS displayed. Glad I did'nt get stuck out on the road or abroad somewhere.

I think its the dreaded Ring Fault.

Ah well off on my 2006 K12R which is hopefully going to start.

F800GS RECALL

Hi all,
i had a call from the BMW dealership today, apparantly there is a recall fresh out today - BMW want to make sure the rear sprocket is at the correct torque setting!!!
Is this a face saving way of saying the torque was wrong so the chain has worn????!!! ( i suppose it could be) anyway, im sure you all got a call as well but just in case i thought id pipe up.

Cheers!

Moto

(7500 miles chain still ok, a little un-even wear but nothing to worry about)

Moto,

Did the recall notice state the torque value to use for the mounting nuts/bolts?

Is it an actual 'recall' or a 'service notice' or somesuch?

Also, it would be helpful if you can tell us when you took delivery of your bike, as that may have a bearing on the models affected.

For the record, I have a mid-March 800, and no contact from my dealer to date regarding this.

Recall

Got home today and on my door mat was a recall notice about the rear sprocket torque settings, offical BMW recall !

Recall

I will have to make sure they fixed this on my bike when I pick it up tomorrow.

Thanks for keeping us all informed.
