yep I got a recall notice to on the thread fasteners of the sprockets of k72
models work loose work should take 30 minutes to complete

my bike was a April model 2008

i have also had a letter today from my dealer recalling my bike for this- 2nd recall since i bought it in May!!!

I got a phone call today about it and as I was on my day off I took it in straight away. They also did a re-route of the front ABS brake cable as part of the recall. The technician also said that there would be another recall soon with regard to the radiator top hose. Said the current one was too soft and that the paint would have to be removed from the water pump pipe that the hose attaches too in order to make it more grippy.

Blimey!, ive had the ABS re-route done, Ive yet to arrange the sprocket re-torque

so have you all had your brake caliper checked then? is not a recall as such
just routine ???? I didnt understand that one myself didn't have a letter I just phone dealer to ask of any recalls


must be a modifaction on rear sprocket cause I had a new one fitted in the
last month or so ?

I dont know what they actually did, i was there for a 6k service anyway and they said there was a small recall- reroute the ABS sensor which meant me waiting the extra hour or so.

recall - rpm cable

Hi All

Went today to the dealers to get hand guards on the bike.

They saw that 800gs has a recall to change the rpm cable for a new one.

The bike was made in July 08.

Also they are going to fix the problem that came up this weekend, that is:
it shows all the time that the petrol tank is full. I opened it and was half full, went to the staion and filled it up, made 170 km and it was still full

Still waiting for the tkc's, might get them this week

Not heard anything about the recall but mine went 'EWS' today. Being a Sunday its been recovered back to my home then hopefully they are coming to pick it up tomorrow.

EWS failure - November 2008

Recently took delivery of 800GS, which has suffered EWS failure with only 130 miles on the clock. Bike should be fitted with unit outwith batch with related serial numbers of "dodgy" units - but isn't. CHECK YOUR UNIT WITH DEALER TO AVOID MUCH FRUSTRATION WHEN YOUR BIKE DIES ON YOU IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE - a spanner aint gonna fix this one !!

Just to confirm, you stopped "in the middle of nowhere" ie road in open country, and switched the engine off, took the keys out. Sometime later you tried restarting the bike, and the "EWS" warning showed on the RID?

If your bike "died" on you it's NOT an EWS fault. EWS won't let the engine start.

John - not at all. Bike was in garage, wheeled it out - nadda! The warning refers to eg. a potentially wasted trip if this item is not checked.

Not long home from work and another letter from AJ in Shipley with a recall notice. This time it's "in the trailing throttle phase or with a pulled clutch the engine may stall occasionally. The recall is to program the engine management control unit"
I know all work is carried out FOC but that takes three hours out of my precious weekend time not to mention the fuel to get there and back. All they can say is the work will be carried out FOC, what about my time and fuel money

i was in getting warranty work done last week (new fuel pump to sort out the faulty fuel gauge reads; radiator hose) and they also had just received this new software update which sorts out the stalling issue. Mine never stalled on me and was one of the first bikes, but it was done anyway. it definitely feels different, not any worse or any better, but it did take hours to do...

You can search on here - but only 2 are known of to date, being the front brake caliper working loose and a fuel pressure sensor fault.
Other issues around the stalling, loose brake discs, positioning of the abs sensor (and many others) have to date been dealt with a "service items" and not been the subject of an actual recall. Which would of course look bad on BMW.

Time to market is so important these days that product testing isn't as thorough as it could be - a wise person never buys a product in its first year of production.

Let the 'early adopters' do the product testing and then buy the following year.
