► Recalls and software updates

The ring antenna is supposed to be a fixed issue. Earlier F650/800GS that were shipped using an earlier version were recalled for replacement.

And ALL 1200GS/GSA models whether in warranty or not have also been recalled.

Tim

'supposed' is right!

Recall work

Hi, Had a few (5) recall jobs done today on my March 2008 650GS twin. Including new software. Version 13 according to the dealer. Does anyone know what this is supposed to achieve?
Also had front ABS cable rerouted and looks like a new ABS ring. Dealer seemed unwilling or too busy to explain or just didn't know - merely said all necessary work had been carried out.

I'll buy a spare ring antenna for my longer rides. When it fails - just zip-tie the spare close to the ignition-lock and transfer the needed wires - according to the Hall of Wisdom. Then ride along. :beerjug:

Took my bike (650) in for its 12 month service yesterday at NOG plus 5 outstanding recalls as I havent been able to ride the bike since September (I had a hysterectomy), I've never had any problems with my bike, I've obviously been very lucky.

I will say that riding home it felt more powerful, the throttle feels very responsive so I'm assuming thats something to do with the software upgrade? Yet again I'm blown away with how smooth and lovely to ride the bike is, I've really missed it and so happy to be back in the saddle!

They explained all the recalls to me, it had the ABS cable re-routed and something else replaced, new bolts on the front caliper and rear sprocket carrier, new hose and software upgrade.

I am still a 100% satisfied customer with my "new" baby and am really looking forward to getting out on her and doing some proper miles this year :)

Still luv it

My bumblebee up to now,1 year old with 2rd sevice and just over 6000 miles.

4 recalls for software update....happy with that.

left heated grip failure....lived without that for a while :toungincheek

2 radiator hoses replaced.....was not an issue on my bike :augie

Paint peeling of top of tank....hidden by tank bag so :nenau

Rocker cover gasket gone,leaking oil...*%+!@~#

But still absolutly LUV it:JB

PS All under warrenty

V13.x of engine controller code is out?

I have heard rumor that V13.x of the engine controller firmware is out....

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks,
Jim

Recall

Has any one else had a recall for a modification to the 800 GS front brake fluid cylinder to stop air bubbles causing front brake fade? I believe it is some sort of baffle plate.

I had my 12k service last weekend and didnt hear anything about a brake fluid reservoir mod/change/whatever.

Front Brake

Thanks for your reply I wonder if my dealer has sent me the wrong recall, I am aware that the 1300 GT has had a recall in the USA for a modification to the front brake cylinder so I will get my dealer to look into it and confirm if our bikes are suffering the same problem. The letter talked about the possibilty of a lengthy run at high RPM causing bubbles in the fluid and subsequent brake fade.

The Decent Thing

Would'nt you think BMW would do the decent thing and develop a bike before they sell it to the public? Feels like the 1200GS saga all over again

Not really, I've had a software update to cure cutting out done under warranty. No bits have failed and no bits have fallen off. It's had a new fuel level sensor and everything else done on servicing FOC.

BM are doing this the right way IMO, I believe. The other option is the company says feckall to their customers and does everything on the sly where possible....

I had / have a MAJOR beef about the software I had uploaded last service... The stalling at tickover cure was simply raising the idle level to 1900rpm in any gear at roadspeeds between 5 and 20mph...

Do you have any engine braking in 3rd at town speeds? Nope...

And they can't 'roll-back' to previous versions either... once the new S/W is in, it's in for good...

Hmmm

On a slightly different note, but still within the subject of recalls, I think I read a post here recently about a recall for a problem with the side stand.

Was that my imagination, or did anyone else see it? I can't find the post I thought I read now.

Front Brake

Just a heads up gang I think the "Brake" recall was an error. The ladies at the service centre cannot find any reference to 8oo GS brakes and after lots of flannel I get the impression it was a computer faff . I think perhaps I am on their books as a 1300 Gt owner (I wish!) hence the warning letter.

Had the 12k service last week and the first day back in on my commute and the stall in third gear issue has come back. Anyone else seen this?
Also the fuel computer issue has supposedly been done and it's exactly the same as before. It reads >110 when full and doesn't drop off till the tank empties. This is shit and the thing should work.

Greggers:
Have you been able to get an additional firmware revision that puts things right?

Thanks!

Sorry, just read this now. I did not see the thread for the said stand but had mine looked at couple weeks ago while BMW were replacing the top engine gasket. My side stand was moving around a hell of a lot. Anyone else checked their side stands?

Yes i think that there where a thread about that sometimes ago. Perhaps Tim created it. I have checked mine and gave it a couple 1/4 of turn to tighten up.
Much better!
You will need a male torX 50 in order to do so :)
