► Seats (too high, too hard, pillion...) and suspension

i paid a lot of cash for a touratech one which is similar in description to the one you were shown and it is absolutely shite so bad i refitted the standard one for my recent trip to croatia,,but i must admit it does look nice :D

Oooh. looks a bit like an R850R type seat with that bum curve support area bit. A real saddle and boy was that a great seat.

Has anyone here ridden an FGS with one of these saddles? If so, please post and let us know if it's an improvement or just another wallet-lightner.

i got my seat on friday from jeffries in shipley..................doing an offer of £189

me & the missus went to buxton on it yesterday, 150miles not a problem seat is comfy as owt.

Just goes to show we're all different shapes. I did 2000 miles in three days on my Touratech seat!

not for me

That's the one I ordered & didn't like. It seemed to wedge me it- there wasn't enough room. But I felt the same about the 1200GS & 1200R seats. They don't give you room for man vegetables!
But I'm 6'5" and hefty, so what goes for me won't be universal.
I preferred the extra room the standard seat gives.

Is it a 'standard height' seat... being a shortarse i really need the low one.....

Hiya,

Aparently it is a standard seat height. Pidcocks asked me if i had the standard seat or lowered, when i said mine was lowered, he said 'ah'....but that said, i sat on a bike in the showroom with the new seat and i could reach the floor same as my lowered one....

I may see if they will let me try it out on my bike before i buy...they can only say no:augie

I can only say that so far the standard seat is just fine..........at least that is what my nether regions are telling me !

Try a Long Run if you have not done so already. Hows the new bike by the way?

I will be trying a long run before long......have been used to riding a Ducati Monster on long trips and thta is uncomfortable ....maybe my ar*e has lost all feeling !

So far as the new bike is concerned I can only say ...........

......so far so GREAT!

My friend has collected his seat from Allan Jeffereis. It looks very well made and with its 2 tone colour scheme suits the Gray F800GS.

Its a few mm taller for the rider with lots more padding for the pillion. The bad news is its not much more comfy for the rider. It may just take time to adjust and bed it in. After 5500 miles I now find my std seat ok for 200 mile 9 hour rides.

I tried this BMW eat at Pidcocks yesterday and it is NOT the same neight as a low seat.. i couldnt even tippy toes both feet with it.... So that ones out, and to be honest it didnt feel as comfy as my standard low seat... weird huh... we all have different shaped asses obviously.

I will be in London in November 25 for 5 days could anyone inform me if it could be possible for me to find any place to find a comfort seat somewhere in central London.

Thanks to you all

Brighton BMW Dealer, today the 7/11/09.

White F800GS 59 Plate.

I'm sure they said £170, but I was distracted by a rather **** Hot looking Lady biker (Pillion). :eek

The height issue would trouble me -- I am only 5'10" and happy with the height of the low seat. How tall are you, Santrix?

I've done a couple of long days -- 1100 km in a day was the longest -- with the standard low seat and it's survivable. But I would like that bit of extra comfort.

Has anybody used an Airhawk on the F800GS fitted with a low seat?
What is the best size?
What did you think?

I have the basic non neoprene airhawk and I swear by it. I rode the back roads from Vidin in Bulgaria to Linz in Austria in one hit. 22 hours and 800 miles. After that stint my derriere was just peachy. Other bits of me starting failing so I reckon that's a big thumbs up for the Airhawk. I've tried the sheepskin but it gets wet and having a hairy sheep on the F800GS kind of makes it look a bit weird. On a Harley maybe but not the 800. :thumb

What size Airhawk do you use?

Have the airhawk small with the standard stock seat - airhawk is the business. puts about another half inch on your seat height. You're not meant to fill it with air.
