Just thought I'd add mine to the selection.

Put this Oxford humpack expandable onto me new GS and done 150 trouble free miles.

Pictures shown unexpanded and holds tools, spare visor & gloves, waterproofs, drinks and scooby snacks no problem:thumb

NB Looks so clean 'cos I'd just picked it up from the dealers with 10 miles on the clock... believe me it's not that clean anymore:(

I fitted the Famsa tankbag before touring Morocco in Oct08. It's a generic bag with custom F650/800 fitting, but in reality it's far too long for the bike.

Offroading was a real pain as it interfered with standing, and I ended up sitting down more than was sensible.

When I returned I found the top 'tank' panel was extensively bloomed by friction. What's really needed is something softer underneath the fitting bra.

F800GS tank bag...

On my ZZ-R, i have a Baglux tank cover and tankbag. I really like the fact that it's easy to clip on and off, there are no straps, etc flapping about when i'm not using it and the harness discretely designed to match the bike. I would jump at Baglux again, but cannot see a shorter tank bag that looks like it wouldn't get in the way.

The closest i've found which i like is the Held harness and tank bag.Harness Tank bag which is also water repellant

The one that appears popular on the forums is the Famsa tank bag, but I don't like the 'bra' affect of the harness

Are there any options?

TIA

F800GS tank bag...

There's always the BMW tank bag.

Well made, not too pricey.

BUT - I find it digs into my stomach.

See it fitted to my bike in the pic. left

Twisted Throttle...clip on tank bag for 800 GS

Talked to the guys at Twisted Throttle at the NY bike show this past January. They are making a ring clip, for the 650/800 GS that will allow one to use the snap on bag. Hence, no straps!!!
From my last conversation with them it should be available at the end of this month with a little luck.
I am sure that you could just buy the ring snap and then purchase the bag it hooks up with in Europe.
Twisted Throttle are a great bunch of guys. Check out their KLR 650 GS on their website. It is "interesting."
I have purchased a lot of bike stuff from them and they are great.

Twisted Throttle...bag connections bags

The clip on setup that they are presently working on is used in conjunction with a Bag Connections tank bag. I saw one with the optional GPS setup. Looked great. Take you bag and Gps with you off your bike when you want. Also, it has all the optional electrical hook ups inside the tank bag.
This is what I am going to buy as soon as they are available.

Thanks for the replies.

The Twisted Throttle Bags looked interesting, but the Quick lock adapter would need 4 holes drilled into the faux-tank.

Looking at the current Bagster website, they don't show the trail types bags as current - and compared to the other's mentioned are quite long - not sure how they'd work for a short tank.

Are these bikes really designed for tank bags?
- both the tank bag and the GPS appear to be designed to obscure the dials...

The Marsee 10 L Teardrop

I bought a Marsee 10 L teardrop tankbag, and modified it to fit my F650GS.

The bag fits the space well (not too big), but the mounting pad has a wide flap at both ends. The front must be divided in two, and restitched on, to clear the key and accessory outlet.

The semi solid nature of the bag makes it completely waterproof (no rain cover required), and the clear plastic top is a good place to keep track of GPS units, cell phone, etc.

10l Marsee

I'd not heard anything about them, untill i came across a review on Fatbiker.

I saw the 10l Marsee on the M&P website, and was a little concerned it was too tupperware and not very RTB. The electrical connector for charging phone on long trips is a nice feature. The websites you buy from do not talk about the attachment points - on the Marsee website it talks about a fuel cap ring and a harness base - which one comes with the bag?
[EDIT] Saw that your's has the harness - doh!

tank panniers on Adv Spec bars

Hi all,

got my new crash bars fitted last week- really good fit and finish, Ever since I met Chris of Adv Spec, I would hope that his crash bars would bive me some mounting options for the tank pannier that I used to have on my 1150 [they are kriega US10 addon packs]. So after a few mins of messing round with straps etc, and a 100mile test ride- Verdict Spot on:clap

Crash Bar Protection

Sweet!

They should protect the crash bars nicely in the event of a spill. Now you just need some crash bar protectors for your crash bars protectors.

Seriously though, they look pretty neat. I've got all the Adv Spec regalia as well and I keep looking at the bars thinking what I could hang off them, (lights etc.).

Nice one.

hi Tim,
do you think the led's make a differnce to visibility, or are they more of a farkle,

ps did you tap into the dip lamp or run a seperate supply and switch?

I haven't fitted them yet. I already have HIDs in dip and main beam so lighting is fine. I'm looking for 'presence' lights that are a similar bright white colour to the HIDs.

The way to power anything like this is via a relay from main beam (so they switch off at the same time) with an optional switch to completely switch off.

I particularly like the way the main beam on the F650/800GS turns off automatically a second after the engine stops running. This is ideal for offroad use when it is so easy to otherwise flatten the battery (cue Andy and Nina on 1200GSs on my last Moroccan trip).
