Nobbies

Disappointing...The vibes only last around 100 miles

Then they round off and chew up and rip apart after 300 miles

Highly recommended:thumb

The TKC-80 vibes are almost nil on the paved roads here in Norway. They can be ignored alltogether... Quite frankly the TKC-80's are my favourite 800GS tires so far. They wear somewhat faster than non-knobbies, but are a nice compromise for my 90/10 tarmac/gravel ratio. My favourites because they look good and give me the flexibility to play on any gravel road I happen to pass enroute. Recommended :thumb2

I just replaced mine after 5000 miles, i gave mine a good bit of stick on and off road, have you had a bad experience with tkc's that makes you post this?

No i think they are a great tyre, just shame about the wear rate.
My first set..the back tyre lived till around 350 miles the front tyre about 1500 miles.
The set on now is shocking, Back worn down around same milage.
My front is S rated the back is Q rated..:nenau Don't no if that makes a differance?

I used tourances on my old 650 single...they were really good on and off road....:)

I have notice they are fitting tourances to the new f650x country that must say something, I think this is probably the way i will go, only tubeless if Mets make them,:thumb2
cheers Ian:beerjug:

wow! do you have an extream off road useage of these tires, we are talking about tkc's 80 on a gs?

Anyone got any recommendations on tyre choice? Current battlewings look like they need replacement and am wondering if anyone has any recommendations for replacement on an F650GS twin. I use the bike for commuting, occasional trips out for the weekend in wales and probably about 10% of my mileage greenlaning.
Am not that fast when road riding, prefer to take in the scenery but grip does:pullface reassure at times!!

Hello, I am also looking for a replacement soon, I have ridden on Metser on the moto guzzi although not tourance type tyres, but the more i look into it the more it looks like tourance tyres are my next ones Tks are a bit extream for mainly road use. let me know what you choose,

In dry weather, can you still lean the bike over to the very outer edge of tkc's 80 and to the same angle as you can with the Battlewings? Very interesting/tempting if you can. The Battlewings are certainly entertaining in the wet when you cross joins in the tarmac but on tarmac in general seem just fine to me. How do the tkc's 80 compare in the wet?

TKC's

I won't ride any other tire.

Conservatively riding I get about +5000 miles, then again I only weigh 140lbs.

I'm the same as maddaddy. I'm coming up to nearly 6000 miles on mine now. The rear needs changing but the front is still good! :thumb

In the dry you can lean them as good as anything else. In the wet just use common sense.

Has anyone got the correct size for TKC 80s on a F650GS twin?

I ordered some from my local fitter, spent two hours hanging around in a cue, then after he fitted them he realised the front was B rated and the back wasn't. Illegal!

My bike is still there while we figure out the combination. The Conti webs site doesn't seem to list the bike for some stupid and very annoying reason.

Is it supposed to be B rated front and back, i.e

110/80QB19 & 150/70QB17? There is no B rated 140/70.

Replies today would be great as I need to call him first thing tomorrow.

Cheers. Malc

Off road tyres / setup...

Hello All!

I have been doing more and more off roading recently, nothing special just a few mud tracks etc, the problem is my wheels are wrapped in road tyres :O

I want to slap a set of off road tyres on there, but I have a few questions maybe you guys can share your opinion on.

First, what off road tyres would you recommend for the F800GS?

Second, how would you go about using such tyres? Would you buy a new set of wheels / disks (one for road, one for off road), or would simply change the tyres for the weekend?

Many Thanks!
ILMV

Thanks Tim I think that's what I had put on, but when the fitter realised it was a B rated tyre on the front and not on the back, he said it was an illegal mix and would invalidate the insurance. He reckons the the 150/70 QB 17 will fit the rim.

Thanks Tim! Seem as if those are the best choice... will need to burn up this set of roadies first :D
