► Tyre choices and emergency repairs

Having racked up 500 miles on the trail attacks, thought I'd report that they're awesome. Did 65 miles in torrential rain Monday morning, and they never missed a beat. Lovely roll from left to right at roundabouts, and a nice light feeling to the steering again.

Highly recommended.

:thumb2 +1. I switched to Trail Attacks last year just before heading off to the Pyrenees, and believe me it pissed down! Fantastic tyres, and I can't really see how a pure road tyre could be much better (even if you could buy them in 21").

Tyre advice please

Folks i'll be changing my tyres on the 800 soon as the back is nearly shot and the front as developed some cracks through perishing in the tread.
Ive been looking at Pirelli scorpion trails again as they've been good for 7500 miles in 18 months so far. For the replacements ive been quoted £245 fitted onto the bike. Just advice required what other tyres you run ,likes dislikes etc

Thanks in advance
:)

Surely these bikes aren't old enough for perished tyres?

I haven't tried the Scorpions yet, but have tried Battlewings and Conti Trail Attacks. The Trail Attacks are brilliant both in the wet and the dry.:thumb2

Heidenau K60 Scout fitted - YEEEHAAAA!

Well I finally did it - got the K60s fitted an hour ago :)

Have to work tonight so won't be testing them until tomorrow but they look amazing!

BTW - I had the Battlewings on from day one and I put 15,200 miles on them (front still had 1000 miles left on it I reckon) so I won't hear any of your slagging. They are a bloody good tyre :)

Hmmmmmmm...like your thinking!

Anyone else tried this on the 650?

The only thing I'd be worried out is my tyre pressure monitors - are they calibrated by tyre size??

TKC 80's

Finally fitted the TKC 80's to the bike today
I done them myself by hand as I wanted the practice and only took 2 hours!
Still at I least I know what do now:aidan

Congrats! Once I have got over the newness of my shiny bike I will fit a pair of TKC 80's and I will do it myself ... any tips for a novice?

By the way, I ran TKC 80's all summer on my last F800GS and found them to be good on both dry and wet tarmac as well as mud - not as good as road tyres of course but confidence inspiring at road speeds of fifty to seventy (mph) on A and B road twisties around Barnstaple and Bideford

I hate the Battlewings particularly the way the front wears

So it`s not just me then,I wore out my front in under 6000 miles. The rear looks like it will do another 6000.I replaced the front with an Avon Distancia. The back will be replaced with the same in the fullness of time :)

Just take your time, I got several scratches on the rims from the tyre levers but i'm not bothered about that
Will take the bike out for a spin tomorrow:aidan

+5 on the Conti Trail Attacks!!!

Original Death Wings were history at 9k - rear very squared off and front really worn - reluctant to turn-in.

Contis still going strong at 11k with rear puncture repaired 3k miles ago.

Contis much, much better in the wet and feel better in the dry too.

Mind, they did feel very very fast to turn-in for the first couple of weeks after replacing the 'Wings.
