Hi do you have pic's of the k+n cone conversion....and part numbers for the cones...what maps are you using in the power commander.:thumb2...steve

Phil, sound like your having a lot of fun with it. Nice project.:thumb2

hi steve, the k&n cones are just a universal fit you just need to measure the diamatre of
your throttle bodie where the air tube slides on, i got mine from a streetfigher shop and dont forget you will need a crankcase breather went also this was 12mm bore i think.
my power commander was best on no:3 setting and we got most of the adjustment out of the adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
a little tip i have learnt is if you want more instant power easliy change your standard fuel regulator(3 bar) to a k1200rs item(3.5 bar) this is what bmw did to the boxercup race bikes for more power.
this is easily done (10 min) if you remove your airbox and it costs about £45.
well see how you get on with that steve p.s let me know how you get on phill

I posted this info two years ago :D

I'm very very impressed its gone from 82bhp to 118bhp with no major engine mods, well done:eek

82bhp to 118bhp with the modifications claimed? There's only one engine tuner who could do this......Jack O'Nory!

just puttin my two penneth in! i had a r100/7 tuned by jim cray, knows his stuff this lad!:thumb2 mods as follow.................................twin plugged, dyna coils and taylor leads. stage 3 gas flowed head(serious metal removal) stainless valves, heavy duty springs with titanium retainers. r100rs pistons (9.5/1 compression i believe) lighted gudgeon pins. crank was balanced, clutch modded and flywheel lightened.all oilways were opened up and a cooler was fitted. 38mm delorto,s standard downpipes with supertrapp silencers,oh and a bmw sports cam!!!!!!!! never had it dyno,d but was assured it was puttin out 80 plus bhp (standard approx 60). the key to gettin the old twins movin was gettin them to rev, this motor would safely go 1500revs into the red,and at times i revved it past this. it would also piss past 130!my point? bhp doesnt come cheap, the old girl lasted 7years in that state of tune before blowin her guts, but that was about 50,000 hard miles and used daily. hopefully will post sum piccies on the site when i work out how to do it!:thumb

Com'on, everybody knows that using a splitfire spark plug is worth another 5 BHP for each plug.
So if the bike was a twin spark thats 20 BHP an engine :D:D:D

The BMW motorsport section know nothing.

here is the list of my choices:
removed airbox (k&n cones),power commander,splitfire plugs,
full arrow exhaust system, fully adjustable fuel pressure regulator
(running at 3.8 bar).

Hi Phil, a couple of questions...

Where did you get the adjustable fuel pressure regulator from & will it fit if the airbox isn't removed? How long will it take to swap if I keep the airbox?

Neil: I remember you posting the info about the 3.5bar regulator, but an adjustable one would be more useful in conjunction with the P/commander. Definitely on my reserve list of upgrades.

The TT's a-comin' so all useful performance upgrades are welcome :augie

hi paul, firstly i kept the airbox on when i first fitted the adjustable regulator, the only place i could manage to fit it was by removing the bikes tool kit tray and fitting it in there.it just means running the fuel lines up the subframe.
i bought it of e bay for £45 just make sure you get one that runs of a vacumm supply.
once i removed the airbox it fitted in that space below the battery fine.
yes you are correct with this regulator its gives you a complete range of adjustbility of fueling throughout the rev range for a perfect set up,my best results was at 3.8 bar but i will warn you my bike now does about 170 miles to a full tank of fuel.
as for the bhp figure i quoted dyno runs was on HM Racings dyno which is one of the best tuning shops in the country so be assured this is correct.
as being a race technician for many seasons i can assure you getting the fueling to a optimum on any bike will release power.
i hope this helps paul good luck phill

My project R1150GS, (2002, single spark), should be on the dyno next week.
The bike has the usual Y-piece and free-flowing silencer plus a Power Commander. However, a lot of work has gone into the cylinder heads, valve sizes, porting, etc.
If the results are as expected, I'll subscribe and post the dyno print-outs, I've already got the 'befores' for comparison.
The idea is to offer a bolt-on kit on an exchange basis for those who are after a bit more than is available with the more usual methods.
I've also prepared a set of heads for my 1994 R1100GS, this engine has already had a lot done to it, but the heads are still standard.
There was a BMW only trackday on Tuesday, (6 times 15 minute sessions during the day, 39 euros including lunch), and my R1100GS had identical acceleration up to 175 kmh to the R1200GS, but the R1200S was a different story!
After reading of the 118bhp claim, I phoned a couple of contacts in England to see if anyone else was aware of a 95+bhp R1150GS, but unfortunately not.
Phil78, which HM Tuning did you use? Dave near Orpington says it wasn't him!
There are a few producing between 90 and 95bhp, but thats the best.
In America there is a well-modified R1100S making 104 bhp at the rear wheel, with a dyno printout to prove it.

You guys may not remember Älgen, from Sweden... We had a discussion a year or so ago about nitrous kits & Älgen came along & showed us his 1100GS with a turbo fitted. Dyno prints showed 172Nm of torque & he'd worked out that the std gearing would only allow a theoretical limit of 134mph so he fitted an 1100S final drive to get up to 140mph+. I believe he was only running it at about 8 bar boost & did no engine work at all. Just had the piping made up & bolted it all together.

hi there guys sorry its been so long but here goes, with alot of development work going on for my 1150gs i have been swapping things backwards and forwards to try and find the perfect compination for fuelling for power on my bike i think i have reached the peak now so here goes:
firstly engine is still bog standard hot cams removed for now,
:clap118bhp and 97torque tested at rear wheel:clap
here is the list of my choices:
removed airbox (k&n cones),power commander,splitfire plugs,
full arrow exhaust system, fully adjustable fuel pressure regulator
(running at 3.8 bar).
with hours spent on the dyno i have reached the peak of fuelling for this bike
now its time for the engine work any suggestions?
lots of people who have taken my bike out cant belive the aggression of power from my bike it will lift front wheel in 3rd under acceleration it revs out in top gear so i am going to change the final drive for a rt item.
so theres the update guys engine out soon maybe i can get 125bhp out
of the old girl phill:aidan

so, a comander, air filter and a pipe, plus 50cc has given you 118bhp???sorry, seems unlikely, what dyno was it?,not saying your fibbing, but i ran a HIGHLY tuned bandit wich gave up to 12bhp diffrent readings on different dynoes, some tell porkys, it gives em more trade.have you dialled the cams in?are the new cams longer duration or higher lift?,how are your standards dialled in?:nenau

no, cos it was a load of b*ll*cks,
sorry,
jus saying what everyone thought at the time
