So, my 04 fuel gauge was reading fine, bike went to BMW for some work, and came out only reading half tank when fully filled (they says nothing to do with them) , this then tells me it's on reserve when I have only done 100 miles or so.

Now, I have searched the forum, read lots of threads but didn't find much.

Does anyone have any tips/ proven actions I could try on this to maybe breathe some life into it.??

I always set my trip so the gauge is secondary, just would rather have it back, ......and avoid paying for a new gauge!!!

Thanks all

Mike

I had mine go after a service. Noticed when leaving the dealers and then within a hundred miles the fuel pump controller failed. Could pressure washing by the dealer have something to do with this. I stopped using them on bikes years ago as it was doing more harm than good.

You could try spraying a water dispersant like WD40 over the FPC and level sensor connectors ??

Not sure now, whatever it uses strip or float it needs a new one, the original appears to have given 8 years service, not too bad :nenau

No, your not sure are you? , anyway, the OP was asking about trying to mend it BEFORE having to buy a new one but thanks for your input. :clap

My '06 bike gauge worked perfectly until ..... I put a dose of Redex in the tank :blast
It then just showed continually full until after 3 or 4 re-fills, in fact the LCD "blocks" on the gauge appeared to have extra lines in between them! It's still faulty from full to half showing full all the time, then it behaves normally below half and loses the extra lines, with the range reading being fine.
The fault on mine and your OP suggest the fuel strip / float has something that changes the signal at half full?

My '05 shows full to 100 miles then flips to half and thereafter bars count down to zero by around 190, RLOD coming on around 165ish, always thought this was how it was supposed to be, seem to remember reading this somewhere...:nenau

No problem, cock :thumb2

By the way, that's "you're" not your, happy to help ;)

Set the trip, fill up and carry a spare fuel can until the tank runs dry. Then you'll know how far you can go on a tankful.

Google searches with "UKGSer" followed by search words will reliably find stuff on this discussion board. e.g "UKGSer fuel strip" or whatever floats your boat.
