Just been out on my 1200 gs, 300 mile round trip today which is first big run after it's service (6000 mile ) & it is very smooth & quiet, but the thing i noticed the most is before the service & since i have had it from new, is it was very lumpy if i let it go below 2500 rpm unlike my 1100gs which was fine down to 2000 rpm , since the service i can run down to 2000 rpm in top & it will pull clean & smooth ,the only down side seems i have lost some mpg

Absolutely my experience Mark. Although mine's a 54 reg with 18k, until a recent adjustment involving some software and physical balancing magic, I couldn't do a slow junction in 1st or 2nd without pulling the clutch in. Since the fix, smooth as a baby's smoothest place - and sounds fruitier too (than it did before, rather than the baby).

Software update

Ktmmark - Did your 05 have a software update? I recently had a my 6000 service and apparently they didn't do an update. Does anybody know what rules are applied to whether it gets updated or not? With mine the mechanic just said they plugged it into the diagnostic machine and it said 'not required'! I was expecting it to be done because most have had the update and commented on the change in the engine fueling. I haven't noticed any difference, except possibly better throttle response above 3k - but that maybe because I'm wringing its neck harder now that roads are dry and engine's loosening up.

Mine's an 05 (May) bike with 13,000 miles.

As far as I am aware I have never had a software update of any kind. But there again I have never asked or worried about it.

The thing goes well on the road and on the track, around London, around Europe, up hill, down dale.
