Hope someone can help with some idea of the possible cause to my problem, riding to work on friday bike was performing beautifully as normal until -- changed up from 5th to 6th opened throttle 2 seconds later bike is over revving and i grab the clutch look down to see a blank place where a number 6 should be so i clicked up again and it happened again, so clicked back to 5th all ok -- nah not really came to roundabout found that gear shift was still in "down position" and the only way i could down shift was to lift lever slightly with edge of foot and then down shift
also found that once i was in lower gears i then couldn't go back up because as gear shift "SLOWLY" found its neutral place i.e. horizontal if you will, it took gears back to neutral.
managed to get to work and find neutral (the real one) and now bike will go into first or second and promptly shift back to neutral, gave up went into work came out when done and 4 hours and an RAC recovery later back home with a bike that isn't going anywhere. Any ideas of even where to start looking for problem would be appreciated. Have been told it may be clutch slave cylinder????? But that doesn't explain why gear shift pedal is so slow to return to neutral position, its like its sticking for some reason and gears arn't actually engaging properly,
Sorry about essay but didn't want to have to explain it all again.
Thanks from an old bike rider but new to BMW.
