Due to well documentated corrosion on timing covers, it would appear BMW have made a modification to the black plastic cover that fits over the top of the timing cover i.e. two holes to let water or condensation run out the bottom. Cleaned the bike today these holes were blocked full of mud and crap.
Lower Fork legs I am assuming programme error on machining or being machined at two different factories. Some bikes are machined as in picture and then coated with something? At first I thought it had been anodised but I am assuming that the casting was put on the machine centre already powder coated and just needed to be bored to take fork stanchion. Therefore it would have been difficult to anodise just that small area of uncoated aluminium. I have been keeping an eye on this and it looks like the aluminium under the coating is starting to discolour. Which means corrosion is underway. (bubbling and flaking paint to follow no doubt). Qualitity control will be aware and have picked this up
it could turn out to be quiet a costly error, because they will need to be renewed/replaced with new fork legs.
The other Lower Fork Legs that I have seen have a radius on them and are all powder coated black. Which there shouldn't be a problem with.
Next time I see the dealer where I got the bike from i.e. Rainbow I will point this out to them.
