I've been having problems with my heated grips from new on my GS.
Some days they'd work and other times (coldest days) there's nothing. Well yesterday I had the first service done and as per previous discussion on here it's a software issue but it's normal.

Aparently you have to start the bike with the grips switched off. If they are left on at startup, the surge check detects a high current draw and to protect the electronics the grips will be switched off automatically to protect the rest of the electronics.
Doing it this way did the trick:thumb

Just thought I'd share this in case some one else was wondering why your heated grips are not working. :)

It seems to have done the trick:thumb

Hmmm.....My 06 GS is quite often started/restarted with the heated grips switched on and they always seem to work.I thought that all the unneccessary electrics were switched off/diverted when the starter was engaged to give maximum power to the starter anyway?:nenau

They do like to keep messin' tho' dont they?

Thanks for this :thumb2- I was also having the same issue with the grips on my 08GS :(

picked my 08 gsa up and noticed in the midst of a hail shower that the grips weren't working so dropped in at the dealer.
They cleared a fault code and now all is well , but I'll check them regularly now.

On my way to work about 2 weeks ago - it was showing -7 Degrees on the readout ..... could I get the grips to work ..... could i hell, my hands didn't change shape for about 3 hours after I got in - looked like a body double for "The Claw"!

Thanks for the info on that! The previous 12GSA never had that problem - progress huh (Sound like an 1100 rider !):augie

Strange, I have an 08 and sometimes leave the grips on at start up, they've been OK so far. However, sometimes during a ride, I'll have them switched on high and when they get too hot switch them to low, sometimes I think they've stopped working and have to switch them back to high, they seem to take awhile to get hot again but they invariably do. Not sure if they do stop working, something I need to keep an eye on. :nenau
