Tash's has had an ignition barrel at 1500 miles as the bike would not turn off

What's happened to yours.

I know I'm the worlds worst at posting pish but please only list what's happend to your bike and personal experience's

8,400 miles so far...

EWS replaced on recall

But note this one.... although no problems, bike runs bloody great, got off the bike today and noticed spots of coolant on the offside engine casings

Closer inspection and I noticed the top hose to the water pump almost off its 'stub' ... waited while it cooled down and was able to push back in to place with no visible loss of coolant... rode home no further problem although I kept a very close eye on it. If it's done it once it'll do it again for sure :(

Old fashioned jubilee clip to be fitted methinks!

Ten minutes earlier I'd been doing over 69.9mph on the motorway, if it had come off then ...... well I hate to think

Looking closely, the top hose, and the bottom one for that matter, were not pushed up to the lugs on the water pump, so the spring clamp was sat on the bump at the edge of the lug... if you know what I mean. When I checked the lower hose I could not feel the end of the water pump 'stub'

Having now pushed both hoses on as far as they will go ie that extra 1/8" the water pump lug can be felt and thus the spring clamp is totally effective.... I hope ;)

I've just quickly cobbled this up.... hope it explains

ABS

Currently in Norway, bikes abs only work when they feel like it.Phoned BMW 10 days ago to ask if there was a dealer in Trondheim, they said they would TRY to get back to me , stillwaiting !

Wind screen ,cracks

around the screw holes(all in front)not the two side ones.
Noticed today that my windscreen have developed cracks in the screen, one is 1cm long, others 5-6mm.
Spoke to the dealer, they have had this happen on one other bike, will be replaced under warranty.
The screws was never touched by me,might have been over tightend?

Gear Box problems

Gs 800 developed a gear box fault after 1st service, when going up through the box the gear lever does not always go back to the neutral position bean in once still waiting for a fix from BM not looking good

I had a test ride on a F800GS from Rainbow and it left me stranded at a petrol station with an EWS fault! They came out and replaced it though and I carried on with the test.

F800 GS after 10000 km + Mongolia trip

Hi,

here are problems after 10000 km + Mongolia trip:

1) Hose problem - mentioned above. Solved by jubilee clip.
2) Rims are too soft - after only 100 km of rocky desert front rim looks bad - curves on the edges. My friend on Africa with standard DiD rims has no problems. Have to buy excel rims.
3) exhaust pipes - because i have had only small TT bash plate, exhaust pipes were too open. Pipes are damaged from flying rocks... exhaust pipes needs more protection!!
4) Little oil leeks from engine heads... - have no idea why this happens - have to clean and check it again ... not sure about this... Anyone has similar problem?
5) brake and shift lever - buy folding ones! every bike fall causes brake and shift lever damage

But, afterr all, bike did the trip, no serious problems, runs on 80 octane petrol without problems, so i am very glad I have it :)

Thanks! keep us updated please?

Jarax:

Thanks for the comments.... keep us updated?

The comments on the rims are very disturbing, I would not have thought that BMW would choose a design that would sustain damage in that few number of miles... any chance of a picture?

On the exhaust dings: I think TT does sell an "extension" to the bash plate that fits to the center stand (if you have one) that would protect the exhaust system...

Jim, hope I ll do photos during today.

About the exhaust pipes: flying rocks damaged front part of pipes, i don t know the exact english name for that part, but it s in the front part of the motorcycle, right bellow the pipes are conected to the engines...

The exhaust pipes that come from the engine and down under the bike are generally referred to as "downpipes" :thumb2

Wunderlich do a protective cover for those pipes. Looks like :monkeypiz

The rims, just like the ones on the XChallenge are made of cheese

Look at the XChallenge posts of Adv Rider

In the end get some Excels and stronger spokes costing about £600

You didn't really think you bought an offroad suitable motorbike...............that's all marketing drivel

Sorry, a slight detour...

:topic
Hi Jarax! Mind if I ask you where you got that fancy looking downpipe protector (the ones from Wunderlich are a disgrace, they are)? What do you think, in hindsight, would another one of those saved you from the nasty dent on the upper downpipe? Was it caused by a flying rock or an honest crash?

Thanks!

PS: Of course I wouldn't even dream of buying one *just* for looks... :eek
PPS: I lie to myself.

the hole in the pipes are from flying rocks on Mongolian desert. the cover on right pipe is piece form TT, originally made for 1150 / 1200 GS pipe protection. Before mongolian trip, there was no other choice, i had to improvize - F800 was too new to buy aftermarket stuff...

...but who cares, check this pictures from the trip :) http://www.mototrip.info/mng2008

...and the rocks were not so big, but we were speeding, and been fully loaded :)...
