Hi All,

im really getting itchy feet and im hankering after a GSA, for those who have changed from an 08 GS (mine is a June with 3k on the clock), to a 08/9 GSA what is the main differance in the ride, Tom, who has done the change has said slower steering, and of course the bigger tank range but what can i really expect.

Looks wise mine is pretty much styled to how i wanted with 2.5k worth of extras and im now looking at the BMW fog lights at £300 making the bike nearly 13k :blast

Just waiting for NOG to give me a figure to upgrade but would probably sell private.

Please feel free to talk openly, ( is that the floodgates opening ) i do believe i may be behaving like a tw*t but you know what its like when you really want something :)

here is my at present.

Kin ell  that's going to cost you loads to change

Indeed!

Why do you want a GSA? the only difference I see is a bigger tank and spoked wheels :nenau

Go on see how much they`ll charge you to change then post it on here :D

I still can`t justify changing my 4 1/2 year old 12 GS never mind one less than a year old :comfort

08 GS value

they offered me £7500 for my bike with my Vario topbox, :) the rest of my extras stripped off ,plus two new alley panneirs for the GSA worth £600 (which i would sell) and £130 worth of labour to wire up some new spot lights and change some stuff over. thats a hit off about 30%. i would still have 2.2k worth of extras to sell.

i reckon private i should get between 9k and 10k depending on what extras i left on it.

still might wing on on here to see what i could get private.

So it looks like it`ll be about £4.5k ish to change then if your bike is £7.5k and the new GSA is £13k

Stick it on here and see :thumb2 Might have a bit more leverage with no part ex

GSA O8

Hi For what is worth, when i bought my GSA, I rode the GS first the dirrerence is quite marked.i felt that the GSA was much more planted on the road it just felt better and has more road presents. I looked at buying a gsa with out all the options ,it cost a fortune to retrofit these afterwards and some are factory fittment only . If you do decide to change make sure you get a fully loaded bike ,All only I.M.H.O
Surmanator:cool:

3000 miles in 12 months - you need to get out more:blast

To put another £4k-5k to it for a bike very similar

Have the lunatics escaped from the asylum:D:rolleyes:

So long as people keep buying the new models, there will be plenty of little used ones on the secondhand market for when I decide to buy another. Mind you at this rate, it'll be about 2014 and my bike will be ten years old. Should have a nice low 'pence per mile' ownership figure from it by then.

I'd buy a GSA if eventually replacing mine when it's finally worn out, but wouldn't bother spending a fortune now just for a bigger fual tank and some spokes.

wrong bike ?

I dont think i brought the wrong bike, I love the GS and cant see a better bike on the market at the mo, not even the new KTM, but, i also just love buying bikes :) whatever the cost. The spec i want will cost 11.8k so everything but ESA which i dont want. I reckon with a private sale it will cost me 2.5 to 3k and ive just sold my DR650 for 1.5k

I think in my mind i will, should, er might, keep the bike til its 2 years old and see then, but if i get an offer on mine then !!!:)

As for the mileage i do, i own 3 bikes and a car and i cant use them all at once, i do 15 to 20k a year.

Thanks for the comments all, i might just see if there is any interest on here for mine and get a quote for cash for the GSA.

Just do it!,get the real deal GSA and flog the tin pot wishy washy wannabe gs,you will not regret it.Cash works best with dealers and in this credit crunchy time they'll probably even give you a reach around...

Go on Lloyd!

You know your ego wants to :D

Be on GSA for the bimble in France :thumb2

You just need to buy yourself a nice white Dainese jacket like mine :D

Why do you want a GSA.

I have had many GSA's and have just purchased a GS but with some modifications that i liked off the GSA.

I have

Silver GS
GSA Screen upgrade
Aluminium cylinderhead guards
Ali GSA panniers.
GSA beak extender

No ESA - as I am not convinced - yes it changes from soft to hard etc but is it originally set up for my 16 stone weight of for a 14 stone

Bike is now lighter easier to handle - and if I want larger tank I will get GSA tank or touratech.

Stay with what you have.

I can make it 'more planted' on the road by adding the bigger tank and carrying more fuel.

I should have done this many GSA's ago.

Just do it!

LBL, Go with what you want mate. I think the GSA is a nicer looking bike all round, better seat, much better tank range, nicer wheels, a load of extra kit for not that much more cash. It's only money and we are all 'a long time dead'! - as the sayng goes. I am upgrading from a GS to GSA as well.

I made the change to a GSA (via a GSX-R1000) and am glad I did. Not quite as good for scratching, but is superb for touring which is a major interest for me.

If you've got the cash, go for it. I wouldn't put yourself in debt for it though, as you're spending a lot of money to gain not-a-lot.

Don't forget 4.5k would get you another decent bike!!

sold it

Thanks for all your comments everyone.

I ended up buying a GSA today from Vines, picking it upon 18th, i got a cracking deal, works out 3k to change up to the GSA ( everything but ESA, try riding one with and without and see the differance ) and i got a free top box instead of panniers and getting a cheque for the differance....nice. and a better deal for my 1st service.

That means my ownership ( just the bike) of my non ESA GS has cost me £1200.

I can swap most of my extras like Headers and can and my touretech stuff, and the GSA screen and mounting and gsa beak, Baglux etc i will stick on here to sell. I think the whole change will end up costing about 2.5k :thumb2 better than i thought and got a better spec.

Now wheres them spanners :)
