I think I read somewhere that the shocks used on ESA models are WHITE POWER. Is that right? I plan to do a RTW on mine when it arrives and is kitted out. If the suspension units fail (and they will) en route what will happen if I change to wilburs. I realise that the ESA will no longer work but will I get errors and annoying lights flashing from the bike if the brain looks for ESA but cannot find it?

Hi Paul

The ESA system has been around for a few years - it is developed by Showa and WP - both are reliable systems.

The system on the 1200 GS 2008 is made by SHOWA which can not be rebuilt.

On the K1200 models the ESA system which is produced by WP can be serviced and rebuilt.

... Could there be just the tiniest hint of vested self-interest in dissing the competition in this reply :duno

... I'll wait to read any Showa response and to see what transpires once the oily fingers of the more technical tossers and dealer techies have had their grubby mitts on the GS ESA shocks for a few weeks, before drawing any conclusions
