Hi guys mate of mine is on tour an just popped me a message,

08 GSA Hexhead got a rattle coming from the front of the engine looking at the fiches on these looks like that's a timing chain cover anything else under there that could be causing it? Think he's up scotland way so a bit to go to get back near Manchester

prominent at 3,000 rpm apparently now its doing it at idle to what do we reckon into a dealer?

My first thoughts were a snapped cam chain guide maybe

Cheers

Tom

Alternator belt breaking up?

Just thinking of alternatives... Not sure that would cause a rattle, but from the same area and it's easier to fix than a timing chain or cam chain guide :-)

Quick question guys should the bolt for the cam chain tensioner be flush with the housing looks like one might have backed itself out a few mm

There is usually a crush washer underneath, it looks like it's had better days, but it's probably still there because you'd have oil dribbling/pissing out of it otherwise.

You mean squirting out at a very high pressure. .

Of course. Would add a nice shine to your boots too :D I had this problem on my 1150 last year, though it was only a slight weep down the casing. Fiddly as fook though, good luck getting a torque wrench in there.
