1 month old, 1 Thousand miles, 1 Clutch Meltdown.......

I shall see if my new gearbox will make a difference...
The WC gearbox is integral to the engine, not replaceable without breaking the motor unit in two (unlike the older versions where the gearbox could be removed as a separate unit)
Why are you getting a new gearbox and on what model?

gearbox is whole unit and slides in at the back of engine, so engine hadcto be taken out completely. it is replaced as a result of ongoing issues with my gearbox/clutch operation which I was describing here on forum couple of weeks ago. My GS is 2013 model...

So after a trip to my dealer, an interesting conversation was had between them and BMW, they have told the dealer to replace the engine and sent it straight to germany for inspection as they want to investigate how the catastrophic failure occurred. It turns out one of the clutch plates has exploded and sent its contents around the engine, what was left of the plate was powder in a cup when I got there. We can only assume its a fault the bike has had since she was born :-( I'm asking for a replacement bike as apposed to mine being repaired so let's see how far I get. To be fair to all parties involved they have been great. BMW themselves have been very interested in the issues from what I've been told and are performing there customer service role very well so far, and the dealer has been awesome showing me the bike and explaining exactly what's happened as well as explaining my options and being very supportive. To answer a few questions the hill was off-road a gentle rocky slope near Alton in Hampshire, limited tracton but all the other GS's/Adventures made it up ok, and for roamer; I think your right, thinking about it maybe I didn't stall... Who knows..... Maybe I'll never know....

so what happened?
