Excellent.
Looks like the 1300 is already reliable .Minor issues such as the bike catching fire, needing a new TFT and numerous error messages are all pretty common with a new model.

The main thing is it never broke down so the bike was still rideable and trustworthy ,and at least the month the bike spent off the road coincided with the weeks you spent in the burns unit.
Genuinely laughed hard enough to spill my pint, thanks ALOT! 🤣

I remember back in the day when I was getting one of the first R1200GSs in the country. Many people on here said “don’t do it, BMW use keen customers like you as test mules”.

Of course I didn’t believe them and I picked up my beautiful new yellow 1200 from Vines and off I went.

Basically the bike fell apart, with so many issues including a new gearbox needed and the side stand snapping off it just got ridiculous. Total piece of garbage.

So pay attention to the grizzled old farts who say “never by the first of a new BMW model - wait a year or two for them to finish developing it”.

I posted about all my issues with my Dec 23 bike.
I am now trading in the bike for a Sept 24 build.

The new bike is the same triple black 1300 GS T E but without the Riding Assistant package.

Lots of my error messages related to this system and the Innov 3rd eye system costs £550 less. Not exactly the same but good enough for me.

I have done 14k miles in the 12 months I’ve had it.

The dealer has given me a good deal on the trade in with a ‘goodwill’ gesture being the sweetener.

I have a ‘service inclusive’ pack with the bike which stays with the bike but BMW UK have agreed to fund a ‘service inclusive’ pack with the new bike.

So, although the first year experience has not being good, the bike never left me stranded. I love the bike’s looks and performance hence replacing with the same. After 45+ years motorcycling it’s the best bike I’ve owned.

Good feedback.
Fits with my experience of the tech on cars for error messages.
Currently searching for a used ‘24 1300gs BMW approved without adaptive cruise or fancy ride height system. Should minimise the risk and tbh not things I would use anyway.

quite a few of the faults have been sorted through software updates, the relay should be sorted and the right hand switchgear is now being replaced. love my second one.

J Biker my second one came with all the adaptive cruise and ride height - wouldnt have ordered it but if it's on the great both are really good.

Hope you have better luck with the new one. Probably still a MY2024 build in Sept??, but don't know that much has changed apart from auto gearbox as an option on My2025. I didn't have any trouble with my jan24 1300gs and it had everything on it including riding assistance, ride height adjust etc. etc.
I only changed mine to get the auto gearbox.
Think you may have just been unlucky with the problems on previous one.

My old one is in Vertu Baildon , never had any issues with it, Trophy model with 6900miles and all add on options apart from Akro.

On the back of that, does anyone know if Approved Used’ bikes can be rejected, or is it only new (consumer law..) also, and I doubt this one, is there a way to find out if a motorcycle for sale has been previously rejected?
as far as I know Consumer Law covers all goods and services in the UK. I think one can reject an approved used bike.

I have personally been successful in rejecting an "approved used" car recently by a franchised dealer. The value was close to £100k. The main issue it was after the 30day period, but within 6 months. It was not straightforward, but my lovely legally trained wife and some correspondence to the Ombudsman helped. Vehicle was rejected outright to full refund (rather than repair/replace).

Obviously we are not on the dealer's Xmas card list.

that's were i was c.2 months ago although my dealer sorted a replacement rather than going through the rejection process (which i tabled at the start to prompt some action.

Just put a deposit on a white 1300gs. Dynamic pack, headlight pro, centre stand and tinted manual screen (nice and simple to use))
Got what I thought was a cracking deal for a new, zero miles bike. Very little difference in cost over a used bike made it a no brainer tbh. 3 years warranty instead of the 2 used. No risk of ending up with someone else's rejected bike.
Hope this one works out as well the last four BMW motorycles.

Are they really selling that many? So far there’s only been one turn up at my local IAM group this year. And thats been recovered at least twice that I know of. I actually think there’s more new 1250 GSAs turning up than 13s.
So updating my original comments…a whole year and a bit on and my local IAM group now has a whopping…..3 1300s. A second guy updated to a GS late last summer and there’s a new member turning up on the Lego pos. The original guys bike has spent so long in the dealer he’s refused to have the annual service done on time unless they reduce the cost by 25% equal to the time it’s spent in the dealer rather than with him.

Got my triple black with ride height adjustment, but not the adaptive cruise ( as I very rarely use cruise) in march 2024….
Fantastic bike IMHO
I have had a couple of error messages on the screen early on, but no problems with anythin* actually going wrong.
Error messages went on turning off and back on again.
Since servicing ( and I presume downloading latest electronic do-dah thingy) it’s been fine.

I dont have bmw panniers as I prefer to use my kreiga soft luggage. Fitted my old Givi metal top box when wifey goes on the back. Fitted cool covers to both seats as I’ve had them before, and rate them as excellent.
Have TT sports engine bars ( discrete looking) , front fender extender, and mudsling on rear. Weiser wizards with extra brake light also fitted. I use a garmin Xt instead of the bmw nav6 as I think it’s better.

Better than the 1250gs I had , and that was great..

Id have another r1300gs if this one gets nicked, blows up, or something else untoward occurs.

To the OP…. Get one, and hopefully it’ll be trouble free as mines been.

Dont worry, on my second…due to theft*.

Best bike on the market for what I do. Daynamic pro, headlight pro. Job done. Love them.

* I have tried to warn others to take good security with them for Euro trips. The posts get deleted. Take precautions, just trying to help folks avoid the hassle I had. These bikes ARE targeted.
Only downside.

I’ve had 1 instance of an electrical issue (rear indicator stopped working) resolved by turning the bike off and on again, I had to have a replacement side stand (it was spreading at the hinge point) and had the plastic frame protectors replaced and glued on better as the originals fell off in hot weather.
Overall very happy.

What do you mean the posts get deleted?

Surely if you are offering tips on bike security when touring abroad this is exactly the sort of useful info others can use

There have been two threads relating to France trips last year.
I posted to take care with extra security. For some reason the posts disappeared. Make your own mind up.

For clarity my bike was stolen from a ‘secure’ fenced, gated and camera monitored hotel parking. In Grenoble. Good hotel too. Thieves cut out a section of security fencing.
My suggestion going forward, disclock plus a secure chain (fastened to another bike or post preferably) I have also had a tracker fitted. Though I feel a tracker is for after a theft…but insurance cant say not done everything.
