1050 Adventure

It's heavier than a 990 adv with less power :blast Looks like i you're right with ref to the A2 licence

isn't that exactly what KTM have said? i don't think that was ever in doubt.

how do you suggest they produce a big v twin engined bike, smaller and lighter than the 1190?

oh, and cheaper too.

I agree it would have to be a smaller engine , 800cc maybe....
Something like the rally raid with a bit more poke
I don't consider the 1190 to be light , I have a slight incline out of my garage and it feels like a heavy bike :weights
I also don't consider it to be cheap I covered 9k miles on mine in 11 months and lost 5k when trading in!!

Introduce the 990 again, use some cheaper components like suspension? It's hard to see where the 1050 fits in. Like fatbob99, I think they would have been better bringing out a lightweight 750 V twin which is well within KTM's capability.

It's a weird one really and I'd imagined that the new 1050 was going to be an updated 990, ie the most dirt orientated of the big Vs?

I can only think that production costs must be very low as it's essentially an 1190 with cost cutting such as cheaper suspension and cheaper wheels (and no doubt a few other less obvious bits'n'bobs). It remains to be seen just how cheap they will be sold but, if cheap enough KTM could attract a few new riders to the brand with a cheaper 'big' bike and a 'newly qualified rider' friendly engine and I guess they'll be happy to have achieved that with little outlay - a good ROI.

It's all about 'customer offer', 'perception' and 'building the brand' - they'll probably be like WBM in 5 years or so ;)

Exactly. I hadn't seen any blurb but I was thinking it might have been a similar weight to the 990 with a bit more waft, pity really.

That's wa my thinking too.

Hasn't the head honcho of KTM not said that the company will aim to reuse many common parts across multiple models to aid profitability? The 1050 appears to be an example of that policy.

There is probably a proper manufacturing term for this which eludes me after an afternoon in the pub watching rugby.
