1100 gearbox hard parts

Any good with Hevacomp ??

The firm I worked before before I changed track to I.T. were just starting to use Hevacomp but to be honest all my stuff was 'stone age' - long hand heat loss calcs / duct and pipework sizing etc :)

OK- decision made - I'm going to bite the bullet and order from TT UK  Many thanks to Steve the Kiwi and Motomartin for enquiring with local suppliers and offering to do all sorts of running round for me :thumb2, but in the end even though TT UK's attitude irritates me I think it'll be easier all round to go with them.

Now, the really important question is yellow or silver? :D

I'm thinking understated silver....

What a thread

Matt

I went for silver…. I wanted a nice pastel blue or African violet but it was silver in the end. If you want the frame mods doing have a word with Vern at project VND http://projectvnd.com/contact.htm. He modified a frame for me and I swapped out his frame for mine …. Easy peasy. And as you have seen a really professional job.

I do think “Motorbiker” has a point, so much so that I am going to remove my hard parts and take a insurance claim form with me (think of the weight I will save). That will be jolly useful in deepest Peru.

Would a insurance company pay out on a pot hole damage and if there did you still have an excess to pay £100, £250…. Or more

Anyway what a thread this has been over some little bits of bent metal.

Let me know how the fitting goes Matt

The deed is done - ordered from TT UK in silver.

Fitting will require a couple of extra bolts as my engine bars share a bolt on the footrest hanger and the extended bolts provided by TT won't be long enough to do the hard parts and the engine bars.

I'll have to measure these up when they arrive though.

IIRC the silver ones are galvanised and the yellow are plastic coated. I was considering the yellow ones but with a red bike im worried ill be in breach of copyright from you know who:D.
Let us know how long they take to arrive, sooner or later im gonna have to spend the money so i can get back on the trails :thumb2

I got the silver ones too. Much more discreet. Can't say I had any problems with Touratech, though as has been said, the parts for 1100s are probably now made to order.

Regards

Thanks Brian.
I came across these myself yesterday - can you be-flippin'-leave it - been looking out for second hand gearbox hard parts for months and as soon as I order new, a pair show up

No need, mate - I should stay indoors - 'tis horrible out!!

Yeh - thanks a million, Brian!!

Spotted these myself yesterday - and was praying nobody else had!! Also been after some, but rarer than hens teeth second hand.

Mike

Was it you who got them in the end?

IMHO it's essential to put them on if you plan to do a bit rougher roads.

And for those who do very hard conditions with lot of luggage (i.e. very hard offroad or 2up+full gear) the rear subframe bottom bits should be reinforced (those you can do only yourself). I've seen MOST of the R850/1100/1150GSes with broken frames from those spots, yes, that includes 1150s as well, who're doing serious travelling outside western world's nice roads.

That's how I did on mine from both sides (I did it before it snapped into 2 pieces) and I see most of others who've had it snapped into two pieces exacly from this spot here in South-America:

Interesting stuff Tsiklonaut - I'll certainly consider this if I ever plan a serious off road trip. For now, I'm looking forward to fitting the hard parts (when they arrive from Germany) - just a bit of insurance for my two-up, loaded trips.

cheers
Matt

Nah - got pipped at the post - came second, though!!

Mike

Bummer - I'll let you know if I spot any more for sale.

My new ones apparently should be on their way from Germany this week (I'll believe it when I see it  )

Any views on the other common T/T hard part, namely part that fits across the telelever arm to reduce the risk of tank damage or worse in a fall? I have one fitted to mine, but haven't tested it yet............
