I have a 96 1100 which gives me no trouble at all however I have read all sorts of reports of gearbox problems with the early ones which have kept me wondering and listening to mine and at one stage even advertising it.
Searching the forum has produced only vague results and the advice to go for post 97 bikes but with no definitive info on exact dates to cut off at etc
Also Ebay has had some really cheap 1100s on recently none of which seem to sell and I wondered if this was due to the horror stories.
Anyway I found this site which seems to have the answers ( certainly reassured me )
