I've been stripping down the front end and the ABS sensor was impossible to remove without damaging it, so now I need another sensor. The one that came out has an alloy case, the ones I have found on Ebay for the 1100 all look like plastic cases. The only one I can see that is like my one that is for sale is off of an 1150GS. Any ideas?

I haven't lifted the tank, the wires seem to go there so I'm not sure what colour the wires are until tomorrow.

The only one I can see that is the same as the one I took of says it is for a BMW R1100RS 1993?

Okay the Bent plastic and Straight alloy ones can be exchanged "but" it depends on the connector

Earlier ABS systems had Blue connectors

when they changed to servo ABS they had black connectors and when they changed again in 2006 they offset the "fit" slightly

You connector should be up on the right hand side beak support just in front of the tank

Servo ABS didn't happen until about 2003 on the 1150.

Subject to the usual 'you're a big boy, take your own safety-related decisions' disclaimer: :comfort

You're surely gonna need new brake hoses, so save yourself time & grief, ditch the ABS.

I (and no doubt others, as there are many related threads on here) have done so, it's a nasty, complicated, clunky, over-sensitive thing, prone to giving trouble, especially when it's nearly 30 years old.

Others may disagree. For clarity, it's not ABS in general I'm agin', just these old-fashioned clunky mechanical ones. If you remove the ABS unit (in front of the battery, simply unplug and un-plumb it, no drama) you'll save about the weight of a couple of bricks.

Yes, Changed to Servo when they became twin spark

For me the most reliable unit As long as fluids have been changed

GSrick its worth checking / changing brake hoses The handlebar to Headstock is prone to bulging when front brakes are applied Check that carefully

A new set of HEL black lines are a discreet and tidy update without too much fuss

And if your ABS is working I'd keep it as even old ABS is better than none :aidan

I'll be changing the pads, disks and lines. I'm inclined to give the ABS the benefit of the doubt. I have heard good and bad about it, but I normally ride much older Jap bikes so any sort of ABS is surely better than none, I'll give it a go anyway.

The sensor connector is black so I will see what I can find that matches what I took out. My project is developing :)
