hallo.

I'm considering improving the shocks on me gs.

Both are standard on 47k on a '98 r1100gs. The rear fades quickly in hot weather. The front looks like it was a nasty cheap thing 12 years ago.

I'm not up for spending 1000+ quid for shocks on a bike only worth twice that.

Hagons look ok, are they any better than stock?

What alternatives are there around at the cheaper end of the market? Is it worth faffing about when there is nothing actually wrong (in that they work and pass an mot) with what I've got?

Any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Olly

Lots on here choose Wilbers (me included) or Ohlins which are a little more expensive but both are thought highly of.

If you use the search button you will be overloaded with information on the above and other suspension manufacturers, good luck :thumb2

I believe Steptoe has/knows of a bloke that rebuilds the standard shocks.

Send me a pm and lets talk shock rebuilds... I'm not too far from you! Total rebuild and postage etc etc would give you change from £150.

Interesting.
Anyone know of anyone that can sort out a seized damping adjuster (in addition to the rebuild) on an 1100 rear shock?

It's a tiny rod with a sort of cam on it - They seize and snap if not moved for a long period of time. You can adjust it to any setting while it's apart, but once bolted back together it stays in that setting until it next comes apart :D

Ah - thanks Neil.

Could be tricky if the wrong setting is guessed when it's in bits :D

Looks like there's no way round having to get a new shock

Thanks chaps.

Food for thought.

Does that mean that the front can be rebuilt too? It doesnt look like it can.

What does anyone think of Hyperpro springs? are they worth considering putting on a rebuilt shock?

Olly

Steptoe, can you rebuild the fronts? I was told that, depending on the type (there were three?) only one can be opened up for rebuild. And I have the crimped type which, I'm told, is one of the useless ones. True?
