I managed to short circuit positive terminal of battery and the cover of the motronic unit with negative terminal still connected (don't ask me why, I have mentally kicked myself enough already :rob)

The result was that one of the ground wires that was bolted to left side of motronic became quite hot and its insulator vaporised. To the same place was bolted a wire that seems to go to the ignition coil.

I traced the damaged wire and it went little bit downwards and then inside thick wiring harness that routes along the left side of battery holder construction. Now I'm wondering what kind of damage has occured inside the harness and where is other end of this particular ground wire?

I have Haynes manual with wiring diagrams, but I haven't been able to extract the needed information out of those.

Does somebody know what that wire is and what are the other wires in the part of wiring harness where it goes?

It sounds like you have melted the insulation of one of the earth wires.

You have two options, either strip the insulation back on the wiring harness and replace ALL damaged wires.... or carry on riding the bike but make sure you carry a very good fire extinguisher with you at all times

If it was me I would be choosing the first option ;)

That's about the size of it,get digging and see what you end up with.I don't reccomend just leaving it though, that's just asking for disaster.

Keep us all posted:beerjug:

Thanks for all the support, it is needed. I will drag myself to the garage armed with line cutters and multimeter and start digging :)
