Does any of the 1100 owners out there know which of the 2 point mounting hand protectors will fit. I've got the BMW ones for an 110 and think they look pig ugly.
I'm after some later 1150 style ones but SPC said they wont clear the master cylinder etc.
Any ideas ?
Phil

Phil, I have an 1100 and I've been toying with that conversion. With slight modification using a file, one can almost directly fit the 1150 wrap around BMW OEM ones.

The only downside that I see, is that the wind protection of the original 1100 ones is far better than the smaller wrap around ones off the 1150.

I have had two friends do the conversion and for this summer I'll do the conversion. Also the BMW ones are pretty cheap at $41.00 Australian.

Cheers Mick - i'll get some when i'm in Brisbane / hervey bay / cairns / cape tribulation for October. :)))

Phil

Phil, if you're going to Cape Trib, will you be going onwards up to Cape York?

Also, do you know about the bouncing stones? You will be going right past them.

October is a bit late though, unless the wet hasn't started.

Mick,

As far as my plans are going , cape trib is the farthest north we're ( 4 of us ) are going - just for a bit of a chill out.
Apparently, farther north and you need 4x4 - we're just going from cairns in a car ( hopefully )

Hopefully, doing a bit of whale watching in Hervey bay.
Chose October rather than November for less rain - couldn't get 4 of us there any earlier.

Did sydney, melbourne, darwin same time last year.

Makes a change being there for fun and not having to work ( adelaide )

cheers

Phil, heading north from Cairns one gets to Mossman and then you cross the Daintree river via the punt. At least last time I was there, it was by punt.

Anyway, about 13Klm's or 13 Miles up the road you'll see a beach on the right (naturally) and it has lots and lots of near pure black rocks. This is one of two places in the world that has these so called bouncing stones. It isn't advertised anywhere that I know of but if you pick up a small stone and throw it at another rock of the same colour it'll bounce like all buggery. It is one of the wonders of the world, I reckon.

The other place is somewhere in deep South America that is virtually impossible to get to without a helicopter.

First saw these stones when heading up to Cape York in 1980 on my R100/7 with knobbies fitted.

Ferry over the Daintree was a chain ferry 2 years ago.

Meanwhile, back on topic  , I have the 1150 hand guards on my 1100 and the only "problem" is that they need to be rotated downwards slightly due to the brake master cylinder.

They feel much more solid and could be filed/cut to mount slightly higher if you wanted.

I did get questioned at my last MOT as they fouled the Givi screen at full lock. After that, the tester "forgot" about it.

Got mine from SPC, ignored thier warnings that they wouldn't fit.

Have a great trip down under.

I'll deffo make a point of stopping and bouncing a few stones around.

Mate do yourself the world of favour and visit Fraser Island if you going to Harvy bay. It is spectacular..............You can hire 4x4 Island packages for next to nothing at most youth hostels in Harvy bay.

Yep - Fraser Island's on the list to visit - do you really need a 4 x 4 to get around on there.??

Anyone know where the jellyfish are in October ?
is it safe to swim in the sea ?

Safe enough if you are off shore on the reef - just watch out for the sharks! ;)

Fraser Island is sand, no dirt, you do need a 4WD!

If you do go to the Island be careful of the Dingo population. About a year ago one of them attacked and nearly killed a 13 year old boy.

Fraser Island has some of the last pure breed Dingo's in Australia. The Dingo is a wild animal, not a domesticated dog that has gone feral, there is a difference.

I forgot to add, that if one does go swimming in that part of the world, there are Crocodiles, specifically, Saltwater Crocodiles. Four to six metre ones do a fair amount of livestock removal up the top end during the dry, mostly Cattle and/or Water Buffalo.

They also inhabit the freshwater rivers, as do sharks.

Recently I watched a programme which was about things that eat humans.

Lions, Tigers and such, remove about 1 human a day in southern Africa. However, Aligators in Florida remove about 110 a year in that state alone. Heavens knows how many others disappear for the rest of the American continents.

In Australia the Crocodiles only get about ½ a dozen a year due to the sparse population coverage of humans but of that lot, the majority are tourists.

The tourist brochures don't say too much about this problem as it would scare off a few of them.
