i can't find the answer here or on advrider - but it might be my searching...

so - on the pre-lambda or foreign market or non-cat - or all 3 (?) 1100's there is an adjustable pot under the seat frame rail - accessed thru a hole in the rear mudguard.

How do you set this ? and is it in place of the lambda ?
how do you check if its right / wrong or rich or weak ?

asking - cos my 1100 seems a bit rich.

Motomartin,I've got the European 1100,ie no lamba,no cat,and I can't find the piece you menton, can you give a more precise location?

The pot's on the right hand side of the bike. Under the pillion seat directly above the rear brake. You do need a CO meter to set it. At one of the last services I had on the R1100 GS the mechanic told me that the pot wasn't working and that it was a bit rich.

That was some 50k miles ago and the bike's still rich (the exhaust's holes filthy black and the plugs are sooty) but it runs OK.

I don't think my bike's got one of these,I've searched all around the rear but can't locate anything, different country requirements, perhaps?

Here's the potmeter situatated we're talking about:

Some bikes don't have them fitted ???

If the bike doesn't have one , i've a spare i plug in to adjust the mixture .

I have 1100 with KAT should i have one too or not?

Don't see any there, or just i don't see anything via that tiny hole(?)

Where in the rev-range does the CO-pot operate?
Is it just around tick-over or throughout the range?
Are they fitted to the 1150's?

An 1100GS should either have a potmeter and no cat, or a cat with a lambadasonde connected to the exhaust.

together with that, the correct codeplug should be fitted:

R1100GS non-cat: beige codeplug (partno. 61 36 8 366 551)
R1100GS w. cat: pink codeplug (partno. 61 36 8 366 625)
Swiss R1100GS w. cat: dark brown codeplug (partno. 61 36 8 366 624)

I can't be sure about all 1150's, because there've been changes with mono and multispark engines. This is what I could find: The R1150GS always came fitted with a cat and lambadasonde it seems, it uses the next codeplug:

R1150GS w. cat: gold/yellowish codeplug (partno. 61 36 8 366 282)
R1150GS low-octane unleaded: grey codeplug (partno. 61 36 8 366 623)

If the bike doesn't have one , i've a spare i plug in to adjust the mixture

so - how do you check ?? with a CO meter ?

clockwise for rich or lean ?

can i set it using a digital rev counter for max revs at idle speed ?

i get my gas analyser back tomorrow after servicing & calibration by snap~on if anyone needs to do this & doesn't live in NSW :D
