If anyone has a non-cat 1100 with a standard exhaust system, could I trouble them to check whether there are mounting bolts attaching the exhaust in the area of the collector box. Numbers 3 to 7 on the attached drawing.

Reason I ask is that I want to fit the standard exhaust system supplied with my bike in place of the Remus that is on it at the moment, but the mounting loops/brackets shown on the underneath of the exhaust in the drawing are not present on the exhaust I have, although it is allegedly the original system that was taken off the bike when the Remus was put on. I'm beginning to wonder if the fastening points described above are only on exhaust sytems WITH cat.

Asked this question in a different way earlier in the week, so apologies if you have previously read it and couldn't help!

Thanks

mine bolts at the collector box on my standard and serbring exhausts
but my lazer and Wiley co exhausts have no collector box just a straight through pipe that don't attach anywhere:) 1995 bike

That diagram is for the NON-CAT UK spec.

My bike was a german import with CAT... the diagram, doesn't show the lambda probe connection point. which is in the short straight pipe bit before the collector box... just to the right of the clamp marked 8.

hope that helps.

If you're missing bits... give motobins a call, they should be able to sort you out.

Both my non-cat 1997 1100`s original systems attached at the gearbox.

The Remus intermediate silencer box now on one of them does too.

The Remus S pipe on t`other doesn`t.

If these are the little rubber mounted jobbies, mine both fell apart last year, after going to Rainbow to get new parts i was told that i shouldnt bother refitting as they were not neccesary.
Saved myself a couple of quid aswell:thumb 15k miles further on and no problems:thumb2

Yeah, the 'little rubber jobbies' fell apart on mine (1100, Remus, intermediate box) about a year ago. I rang Allan Jefferies, who told me they had been discontinued, as they aren't needed. Just make sure of telling the bloke concerned at MoT time; just in case...

Dave.

1999 1100GS - non Cat, UK Bike

Replaced the Remus and S pipe, with the standard system

Both gearbox brackets were still on and I replaced the rubber mounting grommets to attach the standard system back onto the bike, for good measure

Mine has the rubbers for mounting but no brackets on the collector box although I think they have been removed for some strange reason..... But I have never had any problems.

Why ??? You could be inviting unnecessary problems. Wait until asked.

The mounting points are no longer used. If the MOT tester doesn't know BMW's he hardly likely to believe you " it's all right mister, BMW don't use the mounting any more". :augie.
