1100 telelever flex (need your wisdom)

.....My mate's 1150 Gs has not flexes at all doing the same test (handlebar locked-turn wheel sideways). The flex on my bike's telelever, is actually visible, especially between the slider and the stanchion.......Cheers

There shouldn't be any sideways movement between the slider and stanchion. This is most likely the problem. Is it possible the wrong bushes were supplied? The only movement should be the sliding action. Even a millimetre of movement here will be hugely magnified at the wheel rim.

It is also worth checking the condition of telelever pivot bearings and the top triple clamp bearing.

Excuse me for barking up the wrong tree but I thought that any problem with the back end ie, paralever pivot bearings etc was felt through the telelever like this.... Maybe check them, rear tyre pressures, big bearing, pre load settings and especially the rebound screw setting.

Have already double checked them, but will triple check anyhow...

Well, that's my point as well, I also don't think there should be any movement there...
Top triple-clamp bearing has been checked, but will do it a again, the pivots are brand new...

If you think that you have any lateral movement between the sliders and the stanchions take them off the bike and check them on the bench. Protect the stanchion and clamp it in a vice. If the slider can "wobble" on the stanchion you need the forks refurbished.

It may just be the bushes or maybe the stanchions are out of specification. Parts list and diagrams here:- http://realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?model=0404&mospid=51667&hg=31

i've never seen any modern sliders wear.

forks have a chrome plate that is 1/2 a thou or so thick - so any wear will show as worn chrome.

IF there is any wear it'll be in the bushes - they are a sacrificial wear part. - but you said you'd replaced them.

You're barking up the wrong tree, in the wrong neck of the woods, i'm sure.

Well, slider wear seems improbable to me as well. The thing is that, when replacing the slider internals, i.e. bronze bush and four plastic 'cannelloni' pipes per leg, the bronze bush was ok when it comes to fitment (both the old and the new) but the canellonis were both an easy fit in the slider (i.e. they, alone, had a play in the slider) and an extra easy fit round the stanchion. I don't know if anyone has replaces those pipes, but they have one, maybe two millimeters larger Internal Diameter than the stanchions external diameter. This was the case with both the old ones and the new ones (no noticeable wear). And, of course, chrome plates stanchions are, indeed, extremely difficult to wear. So, given the play between the stanchions and pipes and between pipes and slider, it seems reasonable that I have the flexes I have.
This sums up to:
1. 1100's have, by design, these flexes
2. I have bought wrong replacement pipes, but the bike also had wrong pipes to begin with...

Dear Kaister, I have considered the fact to imagine the whole thing, that's why I did the "check-your-1100-flexes" request. But, you are probably right, I have to borrow a front shock, then a rear, and, finally, change tires...(rear end seems fine)

This whole thing is really annoying for me, and, it's probably starting to get annoying for all of you as well...sorry guys.

Hi Gsers,

I borrowed a front shock from a 1150, and the situation is ages better! My own must have been left only with the spring... Sadly have to give it back, but ordered my own already, so I'll get back with extra details.
Replacing the shock, and, probably, getting a new pair of tyres, will solve everything. We'll have to see...
