A friend of mine has a GS 1100, he has replaced both cylinder head gaskets, he (so he says) was carefull not to move the camshaft sprockets, shafts and chain therefore minimising the risk of putting the timing out, however the cam chain does seem very slack despite the tensioners being in place, yet the timing goes out after he has cranked the engine a few times, (by hand), any ideas or suggestions?

You`re in the wrong Forum,mate.

The 1100 is an Oilhead...not an Airhead.

Best to delete this and repost in the Technical Forum.

This is impossible to answer correctly on a web forum - how does anyone know what your friend has done without looking at the bike - had he ever done any work previous on an 1100.

He's done something wrong. Full stop

I think your friend ought to take his bike to a grown up,get it put back together properly, and then when he's out getting it back, hide all of his tools. It'll save ages in the long run

No problem,but..............

my mates fcuked up the timing on his GS is a bit vague, isn't it.You tell Me EXACTLY what he's done, and I mean EXACTLY,and I'll tell you exactly where he went wrong, and what to do about it.But,the best thing to do is take it all apart, and put it back together properly.

Failing that,it's back to taking it to a grown up,and paying to have it done properly.
