I'm thinking of upgrading my 1100 to an 1150 and wondered what the general feeling is about the differences between the two bikes?

Would the difference be noticeable and is there that much difference between the two models?

I went from an 1100RS to an 1150GS and the big advantage I found was the 6-speed gearbox on the 1150 made for better economy and felt less stressed on the motorway.

2p.

Same reason I changed my 1100GS for an 1150GS way back in Jan 02. Still have (and love) my 1150.

Get a test ride on an 1150 and see what you think.

Yes.

I loved my 1100, and it provided faithful service over the 80,000 miles or so I used it. When the Adventure came out though, I just fell for it, and once I'd ridden it, and got used to the snatchy servo ABS, I wouldn't go back. I never got on with the seat on the 1100 and the 1150 riding position suits me better. It's now done 93,000kms since I bought it, and apart from the ignition wiring (should have paid attention to Steptoe) and the driveshaft giving up the ghost, it's been trouble free all that time.
No intention of changing...
The engine for me is livelier and the extra gear proved a welcome end to continual searching for another gear on the 1100

uggs got the 11, iv the 1150, riding position/seat seems the same???
1150 goes on the stand better, taller 1st (gs),6 gears, and dont suffer the gearbox probs, (wich prob are all sorted anyway )
1150 is an updated 1100, nothing more, if your a b road rider, they are the same, motorways, the 1150,s a bit more relaxed, it aint even 50cc bigger

1150 6th gear worth it for m/way fast A road cruising.

Front end look, handlebars and switchgear preferred by me on the 1150 over the 1100

For normal riding 1100 5 speed box better spaced

Build quality better on 1100

Headlight better on 1100

Riding position for me no different :nenau

Would I upgrade from the 1100 to the 1150 no but some thieving bastid may have made that decision for me unless I find a 98/99 1100 in as good condition as mine was.

I've rode my 1100 with folks on 1150's and found we use the same amount of fuel at stops. There isn't much in it revs wise either at cruising speed.

The controls are a bit lighter on an 1150 from what I was told by someone who rode mine.

I'd only change if its a much better conditioned bike.

r1100gs

hiya matey, been thinking along the same lines, only because 90% of my riding is motorway and to me it kind of feels like your stressing the engine at too much rpm and yes the extra gear on the 1150 must be usefull but after doing a thread it turns out thats what these bike like-TO BE USED and 5-7rpm and these bikes come alive.so the 1100 is a keeper for me:thumb

Well said that man, if however my 1100 had 100k on it and I was able to get an 1150 with 30k maybe I"d be interested...

I ride a honda 650 now BTW:augie

I've just moved from an 1100 that I thought I would never change, to an 1150 Adv - which came in at the right price, and my wife said I should just get it.:nenau
I felt the 00 was more planted on the road, with the 50 being "frisky" - but I put that down to a comparison between the 5yo and 10yo suspension.
I think that the 00 g/box is slightly more useful than the 50, primarily because I feel as if I'm shifting up and down a lot more on the 50.
I put NN risers on the 00 just for a more comfortable ride position - at this point in time (albeit 2 months down the road) I'm finding the ride position of the 50 ok, and not as shoulder aching as the 00.
I do like the not very much extra power that you get on the 50. There were times on the 00 when overtaking was coming up and that meant a change down in gears. On the 50, even in 6th, I'm not so conscious of doing that.
The switchgear is slightly different, but tbh I've never found either set-up too difficult to comprehend or to attune too.
Yep very happy with the 50 Adv. But I guess I'm an easily pleased man, 'cos I was very happy with my 00.
Two asides:
1. my Adv came with a whole load of TT bling on it, which I would not be going out to buy, doesn't make the bike go any diffferently, but it is there.
2. If, however, money was no object and I could change just one thing about the 1150 Adv: I would get the tank painted in the red & white 75th Anniversary edition colours that my 1100 was - its just sublime.
At the end of the day you pays your money and makes your choice, everything is subjective.:beerjug:

sometimes i want a 6th gear, but then, its not that bad

at 70mph, im doing 4tho rpm,
right on the sweet spot:thumb

i put a new sargeant seat and fatboy bars n risers on my 11.

it felt just like a new bike - but cheaper :)

revs are about 1000 diffrent,in top gear

That all depends on what box is in the 1150 - riiding with shapeshifter in morocco his 1150ADV was running 500rpm higher at the same speed than my standard 1150.
At every fuel stop he had to put in 5 litres more fuel than me. expensive difference over high miles .

I have a 1100 and love it to bits... after reading loads of posts on here I can't find enough reasons to upgrade to the 1150 or the 1200 as they all have their good and bad points by all accounts. Mine has just had the throttle bodies reconditioned and all set up last week and its now a different bike... (no TB knocking etc.) it could be worth thinking of doing?

uggs 1100 used between 2 to 3 litres more on a tankfull on long distance than my 1150, but its better round town in traffic
